    Best writing style manual for UK

    This work is an outgrowth of the style sheet, then manual, used by compositors at Oxford University Press. This volume is probably the (justifiably) best-regarded, thorough UK work for checking even fine points of writing style. Some versions also incorporate a dictionary as an integral companion "volume", but an ordinary copy of the Oxford Conciser dictionary does just as well for that. My "yes" for recommending it and thinking the present purchase to be good value is, I think, unmistakable. My "yes" for the content being compelling may though be a matter of taste, since not everyone will simply want to read it from cover to cover... But even when complemented by online searches, a copy belongs on the shelf of anyone who has much occasion to write British (or almost any) English.
