    Very well written, heartbreaking at times. Not a light read!

    This is a very well-written book in the style of a Russian classic. It is a very sad but brilliantly told story of life during the German invasion of Leningrad in 1941. It is a very moving account of ordinary people trying to survive against all odds. A good read but heartbreaking in places.

    A sad, desolate tale which conjures up the horrors of war

    Very well written story. You really feel the cold, grey and desolate atmosphere of the attack on Leningrad and where there's little hope. Very sad, you can feel the personalities of main people coming through and the harrowing effect on them.. Well worth a read.
