It's a very good quality flash at highway robbery prices. But this is par for the course with Olympus accessories, which seem to always cost about 20-25% more than other major brands for the same functonality. Having said that, it's also a very high quality piece of kit, as is all Olympus kit. If you are an Olympus shooter, it's your only decent choice (the FL-36R recharges too slowly for event shooting.. it's embarassing). Fortunately, as our only choice it's a sweet one. One word of caution: you will hear people talking about how these flashes communicate by radio. No. There is NO radio. They communicate optically, with pulses of light. These pulses are as fast as the TTL pulse, so you probably won't notice them. But you MUST have your built in flash on you camera body raised in order to emit them and control the FL-50R wirelessly.Read full review
This flash does exactly as advertised. It works with my camera well, recharges quickly, and has a great wireless feature. The wireless feature is easy to use and the reason I purchased the item. I am very happy with this purchase.
I have used generic flash, this flash is the step from toys to professional gear. It does everything, plus things I haven't figured out yet. If you are shooting Olympus this is the flash you need to be using. R/C with no wires, power control from a blink to a Lets light the stage, ability is ther. I have set this flash to trigger five generic (cheap) flash and I am getting pro studio results. WOW, this is a great unit.
Perfect flash for a professional camera. Very accurate, great wireless feature! A little heavy, but most flashes in this category are! Really could not be happier with its functionality. Comes with a great case and defuser as well.
I have three FL-50R's and use them for wireless lighting. They work perfectly and far beyond the 10 metres Olympus advertises. Whether mounted on the camera or placed remotely, this flash provides consistent and powerful lighting for Olympus users. Short story: IT WORKS (exactly like it should).
