I wish I had bought this flash unit years ago. Once I started using it I could see how much better my pictures look. The flash unit is easy to use and it has a feature that after you take your picture there is a green light that lets you know that you took the picture is all the right exposure. Whoever I bought this from sent it to me very fast it took to days from San francisco, Thank you.

I use this on my A99 and A77. With 2 it does great fill in and shadow cancellation. The auto fill in requires me to stop down 1.5 on the a77 and .5 on the a99 or the exposures are overexposed. Sometimes I use a competition's thyristor model, the Vivitar 285HV. It doesn't have the range of the 58AM but it requires no adjustment on my cameras. (It also can be bought used for 1/5 the price of a used 58AM) At least most of the time. The 285HV does require an extra setting but that is pretty simple. One thing I really like about the 58AM is the multiple flash programming. I shoot ballet practices and performances and is is not only useful for training, it makes some astounding shots. So I guess my only gripe is the cost for the features. Even used these cost a bundle. If I didn't have the extra money and a 50 year history with Minolta/Sony I probably would have stayed with the Vivitar. 285HV only for cost and the habit it has of working without offset exposure settings, at least for studio work. I still use mine for specialitie because I have color filters that slip in the head. On the other hand for outside work, the power and high speed sync of the Sony is wonderful.. One thing that I believe is required with this unit is a separate power supply or eneloop batteries. Otherwise it eats AA Alkalines. So overall 4 stars. Read full review

If you need a Flash for your Sony Alpha this is the one to purchase. Don't waste your money on a less powerful model or an off brand which will not be 100 percent compatible with your camera and give you headaches you don't need. There is enough power for anything you wish to light. I use it on an A65 and the results are great.I have had excellent results with birds at 50-60 ft. Bouncing indoors is easy and produces great results with natural skin tones. Using the auto mode the TTL & ADI work well for most shots. It has given me great results at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs when there is fast moving action and you don't have the time to meter every shot. Using it with a flash meter in manual mode at any power this flash won't let you down. On or off the camera this flash is hard to beat. No overheating after a few shots like the HVL F60AM. The only downfall I see is price it's way to high. However if you want the best you have to pay it.Read full review
I’ve purchased the same model about 15 years ago for my Sony A77, and I’m totally familiar with it. I’ve purchased the Sony adapter shoe so it fits and functions flawlessly with my A6600. I see zero reason to purchase the HVL-60, as the HVL-58 was top of the line when it was released. The item I purchased had the fit and finish of a brand new item, so yes … I purchased a top of the line item for less than half the price of a new OEM model. I’m completely satisfied.

Great Flash. I really can't complaint, all features work as advertised with my Sony A55 and setup was easy. Mutliple strobes in a shot, wireless HSS, rear sync, all worked great and yielded some amazing shots. I would highly recommend this flash to anyone looking for Sony Alpha compatible flashes.
