About this product

Product Information

THE INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER NOW A FILM STARRING REESE WITHERSPOON AND ROBERT PATTINSON 'Great story, loads of fun; hard to put down.' STEPHEN KING The Great Depression, 1929. When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and utterly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, grifters, and misfits in the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth: a second-rate travelling circus struggling to survive by making one-night stands in town after endless town. Jacob, a veterinary student now unable to finish his degree, is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. He meets Marlena, the beautiful young star of the equestrian act, married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. He also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discovers a way to reach her. Illuminated by a wonderful sense of time and place, Water for Elephants tells a story of a love between two people that overcomes incredible odds, in a world in which love is a luxury few can afford.

This book arrived with another one on which I've already commented, so I give the same comment here. Excellent ebayer. The product arrived on time and was in the condition described. It was also a hardback book, whereas I thought I had ordered a paperback. It was excellent value for money as a paperback and so it is many time more than that as a hardback. Thank you Baham Books, excellent service all round.

  • Interesting

I bought this book hoping it would be one I could recommend for discussion at Book Club. It was interesting, but not a 'page turner'. I did not recommend it as I thought that some of the description would offend the older ladies in our group.

  • Couldn't put it down.

I adore this book. Couldn't put it down! I convinced all my friends to read it too! Excellent value for an excellent book.

  • Highly recommended book. But be prepared not to put it down.

Was bought after watching the film. This is a heartwarming and at times heartwrenching story of a young man who joins a circus after the death of his parents. It keeps swapping from the 90 or 93 year old man who is stuck in a nursing home waiting for his family to take him to the circus to the young man he once was. It was very easy to follow despite this change of time and made me unable to put it down for wanting to know what happens next. Would recommend it as I enjoyed it immensely.

  • love story, adventure, exciting, interesting, gripping storyline

saw the film and just had to read the book. well written love story and adventure of a young Jewish lad who falls on bad times. Well worth the read
