About this product

Product Information

The #1 National Bestseller Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the present,The Kite Runneris the unforgettable and beautifully told story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Raised in the same household and sharing the same wet nurse, Amir and Hassan grow up in different worlds: Amir is the son of a prominent and wealthy man, while Hassan, the son of Amir's father's servant, is a Hazara -- a shunned ethnic minority. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them. When Amir and his father flee the country for a new life in California, Amir thinks that he has escaped his past. And yet he cannot leave the memory of Hassan behind him.The Kite Runneris a novel about friendship and betrayal, and about the price of loyalty. It is about the bonds between fathers and sons, and the power of fathers over sons -- their love, their sacrifices, and their lies. Written against a backdrop of history that has not been told in fiction before,The Kite Runnerdescribes the rich culture and beauty of a land in the process of being destroyed. But through the devastation, Khaled Hosseini offers hope: through the novel's faith in the power of reading and storytelling, and in the possibilities he shows us for redemption.

  • One of the most poignant well written books!

I honestly can't even tell you why I bought this book. Was it for the history, I wasn't really interested in kites. After reading the book I became interested in both in of all places Afghanistan. Kite Runner is probably one of the most poignant well written books I've ever had the pleasure of discovering. This is Hosseini's first book and I hope not his last. It's a ground level look at life in Afghanistan. Not a dry history book, but a story about families, rich and poor and how they survive a lifetime of wars. It has left me clamoring for more from this author, I hope it does the same for you.

  • I Loved This Book

I read this book a year ago and loved it. Planning a long road trip, I decided to "reread" this book again via a book tape. What really intrigued me was the story was narrated by the author himself making the pronunciation of all the afghani names perfect. The twenty hour trip passed by in a flash. I was totally enthralled by the sound of his voice and the beautiful story that unfolded again. It was the best. I might even listen to it again on the way back. It is one of most touching stories ever told. I highly recommend it.

  • The Kite Runner

I bought this as I had heard such great reviews and was not disappointed. It is beautifully written with detail that transports you to the scene. The language is rich, the story gripping and I would highly recommend this to any discerning reader for great pleasure. The only problem is having read this and the follow up book, finding something to compare in interest and storyline. A marvelous book whose Author deserves all the praise he is receiving.

  • An incredible reading/listening experience.

This is an incredible story and the audio tape is perfect. I have now ordered two more audiobooks by this same writer "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and "And the Mountain Echoed. The stories are not only fascinating and moving but have taught me a great deal about the culture of the country and people.
