Well I originally set out to find a very good point and shoot camera for taking with me to concerts and whatnot, I have had a few others in the past that weren't up to doing this, my nikkon took decent video but audio was just jumbled so I sold it and searched for a camera mainly for capturing video at loud concerts, I was sold on this model after typing the name and number in YouTube, there were alot of test videos using the new HD mode, but what really did it was a video that was taken at an AC/DC concert (how much louder can there be?) well the audio was great as well as video, I bid on a camera that day, so far I have taken some pictures and been to 1 live music event where I was only 10 feet from the stage, video came out clear and the music sounded good, definately worth the price of this camera, I will always have the memories of concerts now on video. Did I mention it records audio on Dolby surround, this is one awesome camera. One downside is the special cable made just for camera( should have used a mini USB) also uses a rechargeable battery instead of AA but it's cool, they are thin and small, I bought an extra one for 15 bucks that seems to work just as good as original, hope this review helps someone!Read full review
I like the build quality of the ZS3, the large/clear LCD and its outdoor results. Like its predecessor TZ3 this is NOT expected to give you end-to-end clear and illuminated pictures once you go indoors using "forced" flash (as opposed to using "intelligent auto" which inhibits some flash intensity) even though the camera behaves well as far as a non-slr response time. As a complement to another camera that is dedicated to shoot indoors, this ZS3 shines in its own way. You will appreciate the sturdiness and solid build in your fingers, the good looking black metal. Battery update issue becomes less and less of a hassle as many vendors from China start to provide affordable (version 1.2)replacement for the BCG10pp. If you expect a huge performance over the TZ3 to shoot nice in-doors photos, think again. But for some level of video shooting and a good build overall, this is "very" recommended(barely so); i.e. a sort of gem that might impress friends. I would rate it to be equal to the Sony DSC W290 series for indoor shootings; but that's only me.Read full review
The picture quality of this camera is superb, in comparison to other cameras I've tested like the sony t-70 or the Olympus FE, that in both cases you would get a lot of blurry images and noise, shooting in interior's or at night. Pros: Great pictures (most of the reviews support this) Large zoom 12x (you can get 17x at 3Mp, with no blurry images) Excellent Dual Image stabilization 16:9 Images You could get with the proprietary scenery mode, almost professional pictures depending on the scene (example Party, beach, sports, night portrait, etc) Intelligent auto iA, for easy shooting (it automatically make's face detection, scene detection, tracking, etc) Nice video quality with optical zoom/ also 16:9 video Wide angle lens, capable of 25mm picts Nice battery life (aprox 300 picts) Nice LCD Cons: Little bulky and heavy (but its pocket wearable) No HD 1080 video (you will have to spend U$100 more for the ZS3) I've being using this camera for a couple of months, and I’m very happy with the performance, that in some cases are closer to an entry level DSLR camera. If you care a lot of the picture quality and zooming without breaking the bank, and don’t want those mediocre point and shoot cameras out there, I recommend this camera. You’ll get a lot of compliments with the pictures. Paid U$180.00 NIBRead full review
Advanced amateur-have DSLRs, super zoom "bridge" cameras and have tried several smaller ones. i have one particular larger Lumix that ends up being my most used, as it is the least fussy, most practical and takes very consistent, properly exposed pics. So went for a small Lumix as these seem to be pretty strong contenders in this size. This has a very solid feel to it although I'd like the control dial to be a little heftier. The LCD screen is large and clear, very bright. Response is fast, and the flash as small as it is, is very powerful for a camera this size, takes great indoor flash shots even from 20+ feet away. After trying several "smartphone" cameras, decided this is still the best way to keep a small profile and the photos are much better quality than even my highest megapixel phone camera. Guess a decent Leica lens will do that! I am pretty impressed that a camera this small can take pictures ""comparable" to my DSLRs-certainly not as detailed, but for every day utility shooting, this is an improvement upon earlier small cameras I've owned and the 10X optical with anti-shake really works. The Lumix really have nailed the anti-shake concept. I have 2 other brands with anti-shake and the Lumix is more consistent and responsive for shots that could be on the "shaky" side. I haven't tried printing yet but since this gives up to 7 Meg shots, I am thinking prints up to 8 x 10 will probably turn out pretty nicely. and the menu system is the easiest I've used, similar to Canon's but gives you a full screen prompt to show which mode you are in the instant you select it, very nice! Definitely recommended.Read full review
Like: 12X optical zoom fast turn-on to first-shot speed. Image quality (excellent) Scene modes & face recognition work well Intelligent mode (auto select parameters) size (easily pocket-able) printed manual comes with! uses SDHC cards (up to 32GB) Cons: unusual (proprietary) USB cable req.for direct camera= PC downloading. Yet ANOTHER battery type to keep track of. Although video quality is good= excellent, options somewhat limited. Bought a factory refurb. All told, I'm satisfied. The ZS1 is a great, pocket-able, camera which takes superb pictures. (this is my 3rd Lumix). I'm able to control all aspects if I want, or I can just let its auto mode make the best overall decisions for me (when I just "don't want to mess with it.") Lotta' bang-for-the-buck!!
