The Shinko 712 is a terrific alternative for most of the higher dollar brands. Quality has been great the past few years and the tires are predictable in build quality. I've been putting the 712's on all of the airhead BMW's and the Triumph Bonneville. They are as sticky and predictable as the Michelins, which is what they replace. I highly recommend the Shinko 712.

      OK tire for vintage motorcycle

I use Shinko's on my 35 year old japanese standard bike. This tire works well on a bike that you are not riding at high speed or have high expectations on "stiction" when cornering. It works fine and is safe, just acknowledge its limitations. $55 and free shipping and my local independent shop mounted it for $25. That's a bargain.

    • Modern Tires on Vintage Motorcycles

The Shinko 712, like most modern rounded-design tires are a great upgrade for vintage motorcycles. Add new shocks and front fork rebuilds with new fork seals and you have the ability to experience a better ride than was available when those bikes were brand new off the show room floor.

    • Good overall but very difficult to seat beads

I bought a front and rear tire for a 1985 GPz550 and both were extremely difficult to get the bead seated. I needed to use a friend's commercial sized air compressor, we still struggled using RU-Glyde lube and removing the regulator for full air flow, almost giving up. Never had trouble seating the bead like these tires, the actual mounting on the rim was fine. Otherwise, seem good quality.

    • Excellent Bang for the Buck and Great for Vintage Motorcycles!

As one who has resurrected more than 100 vintage motorcycles, I know that with new shocks, freshly rebuilt front forks/seals/fork oil and these tires, one can experience a better ride than when those bikes came off the showroom floor. New, modern rounded design, tires can make all the difference in the safety and enjoyability of your vintage bike's ride.
