About this product

Product Information

Based on Tennessee Williams' ORPHEUS DECENDING, THE FUGITIVE KIND stars Marlon Brando as Val Xavier, a guitar playing, snakeskin jacket wearing drifter who wanders into a small southern town after giving up a life of crime. There, he meets Carol Cutere (Woodward in an incendiary performance), the local bad girl, with whom he begins a stormy love affair. However, Val also gets involved with his boss' wife, the Lady (Magnani), who will do anything she can to stop Val from running off with Carol and keep him in her town. Flamboyant, melodramatic, and, by turns, absurd and profoundly affecting, THE FUGITIVE KIND is a fascinating movie that provided the inspiration for David Lynch's WILD AT HEART.

  • Nice Brando film from the late 1950s. Good adaptation of Tennessee Williams' play,

Nice Brando movie, directed by Sidney Lumet, co-starring Joanne Woodward and Anna Magnani. Film version of Tennesse Williams play Orpheus Descending. Of all the film adaptation of Williams' plays I would rate this below Strreetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but above Suddenly Last Summer and Sweet Bird of Youth. I think Brando was in top form and it kept my attention throughout. I had seen this film on tv a few times and I am glad to have a copy of my own.

  • This unheralded movie is a real sleeper. Brando fans should not overlook this film.

This movie in my opinion is one of Brando's greatest performances. The film features 2 great actresses in Anna Magnani & Joanne Woodward. Victor Joey plays the part of Magnani's dying husband as well as the villain in this deep south drama. Also featured is R.G. Armstrong as the redneck sheriff who works in concert with Jory in bringing this story to it's tragic conclusion.

  • A Captavating Movie

Two movie legends keep you riveted to the unfolding of this story. The exchanges of dialog between the characters in this film brilliantly makes this story live. The dramatic scenes between the two divergent characters is masterfully crafted by these skillfully seasoned actors. This earthy drama and its memorable characters serves up a tasty slice of life.
