About this product

Product Information

"The Discomfort Zone" is Franzen's memoir of growth from his boyhood as a "small and fundamentally ridiculous person," through an adolescence both excruciating and strangely happy, into an adult with embarrassing and unexpected passions. It's also a portrait of a Midwestern middle-class family weathering the turbulence of the 1970s and a vivid personal history of an America turning its back on a certain idealism. Daring, honest, and written with the comic scrutiny and unqualified affection that marks Franzen's fiction, "The Discomfort Zone" tells of the formation of one young mind in the crucible of an everyday American family.

I was so glad to see these 2 pins I was looking for at a super reasonable price. I was so glad they were able to accommodate my requests in combining shipping. It came very well packaged and protected and I appreciate them putting the pins in cardboard so I can safely slip it in and out without it getting bent or poking myself. I wish shipping was a little cheaper since these pins are so small and light, but other than that they were a super great seller.

  • Memoir by Jonathan Franzen

Jonathan Franzen wrote a memoir. He is a baby boomer with World War II parents (like me). A couple of his stories are deja vu...I could swear I've heard or read them before somewhere, but how and where? One of the signs of a good writer. His stories are interesting enough that I really wanted to keep listening to find out what happens! Again, a sign of a good writer. I really liked this book, but I did not love it.
