Good plane for a low cost.

Pretty pleased with its quality even though it is a pretty cheap tool. Only issue I have found is the blade seems a little soft, visible central wear after smoothing onne large jointed board of oak. But perfectly acceptable for the cost, and the blade is easily upgraded for another brand that shares the same fitment style.

  • Consider the price

The plane body is pretty good. The base is slightly out of flat, but probably OK for general jobbing work The adjustment mechanism is a little wobbly, but again quite useable. The blade however is in a horrible state out of the box (and looking around this seems general, not just mine). However a little time on appropriate oil stones to flatten the back, and re-establish the cutting edge produced a nice blade. It does seem the steel of the blade is OK, just poorly finished out of the box. For the price however I was happy to spend an hour setting up the blade and end up with a useable plane for very little money. Remember, you will need to sharpen it periodicaly anyway, so once more before you start using it is not a bad compromise. If you need to learn how, Google Paul Sellers ...

  • Cheap plane

Great value for the money. But needs heavy tuning. Sole needs to be flattened, blade too. Sole was near to OK, but blade was really paining job. But after sharpening I have nice shavings. Only one issue is still there. Frog cannot be moved front enough to close mouth more. Frog's screws are on their limit. To move it more needs some milling.

  • A great plane at a competitive price

Don’t expect to get perfect shavings straight out of the box, it’s not going to happen and a poor workman always blames his tools. I bought this direct, from a local tool station, as with any hand plane under £350 it needs to be set up. If you can appreciate the fact that the plane needs some work (that can be done by a total amateur after watching a few YouTube videos, you won’t be disappointed) and that’s why it doesn’t cost a premium price, just remember that what is required to set up this plane is EXACTLY the same as what you would have to do if you bought a brand new Stanley. I started by flattening the back of the iron, sharpened and honed, my attention went to the chip breaker, I literally put an edge on the chip breaker, wood by wright does a great video on this, get these two ...

  • Great tool.

I recommend sharpening the blade before using it. It comes pretty sharp but could be better. And I had to tighten up a few screws in the handle as the arrived loose. Once sorted this works great.
