Synopsis
In the 25 years since From Neuron to Brain was first published, the authors' aim has remained constant: to describe how nerve cells go about their business of transmitting signals, how the signals are put together, and how, out of this integration, higher functions emerge. The new Fourth Edition, while maintaining this focus, has been completely reformatted and updated. - Intended for use in upper-level undergraduate, graduate, psychology and medical school Neuroscience courses, From Neuron to Brain will be of interest to anyone, with or without a specialized background in biological sciences, who is curious about the workings of the nervous system. It presents a readable and coherent account of how cellular and molecular approaches can provide insights into the workings of the brain.

  • Great book, a lot of information

This textbook is full of illustrations and diagrams, but the chapters are dense. Explanations often needed clarification from my professor. I used it in an introductory neurobiology course and did well when I read ahead of time and asked questions early because the material is cumulative.

  • Neurobiology book

Good book for neurobiology but it has a lot of more biophysics and less of physiology. It explains the processes on mechanistic basis but it does not go into depth about how the different parts of the nervous system are related physiologically.

  • not for intro neurobiology

To advanced for introductory neurobio but ok overview for advanced (just read original literature!) Bought it for a intro neuro class. doesn't really help but more confuses

  • Great Book

This book actually gives the experimental history of many of the physiologic mechanisms they present. I thought it was a very thorough book. They seemed to dedicate a lot of space in this book to the visual system though, but that is/was Nicholls' area of expertise.
