About this product

Product Information

In New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Peters's eagerly anticipated Amelia Peabody adventure, the Emerson clan is a hairsbreadth away from unearthing the legendary site they've been searching for. But a sinister plot and a dark family secret stand in the way of their ultimate ambition -- and threaten to change things forever. . . . Convinced that the tomb of the little-known king Tutankhamon lies somewhere in the Valley of the Kings, Egyptologist Radcliffe Emerson and his wife, Amelia Peabody, seem to have hit a wall. Emerson has tried desperately to persuade Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter to relinquish their digging rights. But Emerson's trickery has backfired, and his insistent interest in the site has made his rivals all the more determined to keep the Emerson clan away. The family returns to Luxor and watches from the sidelines as Carter and Carnarvon "discover" King Tut's tomb. But before their own excavation can get underway, Emerson and his son, Ramses, find themselves lured into a trap by a strange group of villains demanding "Where is he?" The Emersons embark on a quest to uncover who "he" is and why "he" must be found, only to discover the answer is uncomfortably close to home. Now Amelia must find a way to protect her family -- and perhaps even her would-be nemesis -- from the forces that will stop at nothing to succeed in the nefarious plot that threatens the peace of the entire region. Filled with heart-stopping suspense, and Amelia Peabody's trademark wit and wisdom, Tomb of the Golden Bird is the latest thrilling installment from the beloved "Grand Dame of historical mystery" ( Washington Post ).

  • Highly entertaining murder mystery series

If you love murder mysteries and history, especially the history of Egypt, then this is for you. The characters are well developed, the stories complex and the history is rich. Barbara Rosenblatt narrates the audio books and she is superb! About audio books: I moved outside of the city about 1.5 years ago so I now have a long commute (about an hour each way) to and from work everyday. The traffic is horrendous. Listening to books on CD is a great way to cope and pass the time. But you do have to be careful about selecting the right narrator. Some are so awful I could not get through even the first disc. Others change narrators mid-series without notice. The Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters features Barbara Rosenbaltt throughout the entire series and, as mentioned earlier, ...

  • Outstanding as Usual!

I love audio books for listening to while doing housework or getting ready for work. I had read the Amelia Peabody series and have all the books and really enjoyed them all. Then I found the audio book series and the reader Barbara Rosenblatt who is the best reader I have heard so far. She does men's and women's voices very well and really captures the spirit of the books. I have listened to them all now and decided after about half-way through the series that I would listen to these books over and over, so I decided to buy the series. This is the last one in the series and has many funny moments and the usual plot twists. Great listening and another great performance by Ms. Rosenblatt. I heartily recommend this book and the whole series, but start at the beginning with Crocodile in ...

  • Tomb of the Golden Bird

The reader is one of the best that I have ever heard, with a tremendous range in voices and dialects. The characters, particularly Amelia and Emerson Peabody, are very good and lovable. The story, which is wrapped around the actual events surrounding the discovery of Tutankamen's tomb, is somewhat weak. And at 12 disks, it is long. I found the constant references to additional verse from "Transcript H" to be annoyiing and without purpose.

  • Tomb of the Golden Bird by Elizabeth Peters (2006)

This book is a continuation of Peters' character Amelia Peabody and her family ~ the reader is what makes the book special, she's got a great range and allows the listener to truly feel as though they are listening to several different and distinct character voices.

  • Tomb of the Golden Bird by Elizabeth Peters

Excellent historical mystery with a cast of eccentric characters guaranteed to amuse any Egyptian buff. Elizabeth Peters is alway a good read whether she writes under that name or under Barbara Michaels with her supernatural mysteries.
