Whenever an attempt is made to distill the essence of a recording artist's into one or two discs, there will be things left out that a fan feels should have been included and things included that a fan feels should have beenleft out. All things considered, the folks behind this two CD set seem to have done a good jobof selecting material.I discovered Laurie Anderson about the time of "Home of the Brave," then explored her back catalog. Changes in my life caused me to lose touch after "Strange Angels." This set covers all of that and some of her later work that was not familiar to me. I feel that the two discs display the constant change and growth that characerizes the life of an exceptional artist. The booklet that comes with the discs offered nice background as well. For anyone wanting to discover Laurie Anderson, or for those, like me, who want to reconnect, this is an excellent package.Read full review
Experimental music as theatre is the best way I can describe her performances. This anthology is good but suffers from the pieces being separated from context (which is the flaw of ALL anthologies). But I can’t imagine anyone doing a better job of creating an overview of Anderson’s work than is presented here. If I could afford to buy new CD’s of all her works I would do so, but this wonderful anthology will suffice for now.
I've been trying to think of what was left out of this anthology. I saw Laurie back in the 80's. This set brings it all back.
