I loved the Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet but always felt somehow that the casting was a bit off. I stumbled upon this adaptation on Netflix and was thrilled to find that it was beautifully done and I have to say now my favorite adaptation. The scenery is stunning and the casting superb, particularly Eleanor. The age ranges of the sisters is much closer and feels more fitting with the actual storyline. The character differentiations - Eleanor's logical, pragmatic yet hopeful nature contrasted with Marianne's youth and exuberance and overt romanticism is much more believable I felt in this adaptation - they seem like real characters. And I think the progression for Marianne from the youthful infatuation with Willoughby and the progression to her realization of her affection for Colonel Brandon also feel more human and less like she's "settling". Also the age difference between Brandon and Marianne doesn't feel like as great a gap. And Eleanor and Edward are well matched in age and the chemistry is fabulous. Overall, every single actor shines in their roles and performances. It feels just like a more honest adaptation overall and a must see for any fan of Jane Austen or English period drama in general.Read full review
I bought the Sense and Sensibility (2008, DVD) because I missed seeing the last part of it on Masterpiece Theater. This adaptation was done by Andrew Davies who has done several other British productions. This was wonderfully done and the cinematography was beautiful. This is the best Sense and Sensibility depiction I have seen. The characters are excellently cast, especially the part of Eleanor Dashwood. The actress captures her conflicting emotions in a way that allows her to appear in control yet warmly human. This DVD also included a bonus DVD of the Masterpiece Theater's presentation of Miss Austen Regrets, a fictitious account of what Jane Austen's life may have been like. Both were very well done. If you are a Jane Austen fan then you won't be disappointed!
Best version of this Jane Austen classic. All of you Dan Stevens fans will NOT be disappointed. This is the pre-cursor to his role as Matthew in Downton Abbey. DVD arrived early and quality is A+.

I love Sense and Sensibility, but I had only seen the American version with Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. After watching this one, this is my new favorite. This movie goes into so much more detail, drama and emotion. The actor that plays Edward Farris reminds me of Hugh Grant in his role as Edward. I would definitely recommend this version.
Really good series version of the book. Longer and more detailed than Ang Lee’s. Dominic Cooper is excellent. I just love it.
