Darker lyrical content, heavier riffage, still funky. Essential Fishbone!
In my opinion, this is the pinnacle of Fishbone's artistry. This album is a bit heavier (the album opener "Swim" is probably the heaviest riffage the band has ever had)than a lot of their previous (and subsequent) work, with darker lyrical tones ("End the Reign" and "Black Flowers" are both very powerful examples of this). That does not mean, however, that the funky old Fishbone isn't well-represented on this album. This album is just phenomenal. I have known several people who were not big Fishbone fans, but I played them this album and they all changed their minds.
