    Don't Waste Your Money

Between 1950 and 1969, I grew up in Detroit where Ty Cobb was a legend. His name (with no uniform number) is on the outfield wall along where the names and numbers of other Tigers players are displayed, with their numbers being retired. I was expecting this movie to show highlights of his baseball career which led to him being the highest voter-getter in the original Cooperstown Hall of Fame class inducted. Instead, there was very little baseball in the movie and it showed him during his retirement life around age 71. It depicts him as a crass, foul-mouthed individual with no redeeming qualities, who uses a revolver to shoot cockroaches off of walls in hotel rooms. The language was so bad that my wife and daughter-in-law left the movie room at our house. I only watched it until the ...

  • Cobb (DVD, 2003)

Interesting biopic about one of Baseball's greatest players and clearly most controversial characters. He played baseball like every game was a war, and the other team was the enemy. He was famous for using his spikes to injure opposing basemen, and would fight at the drop of a hat. At one time, he was clearly referred to as "the most hated player in baseball". Cobb set more than twenty-five records during his career, many of which still stand. His lifetime batting average was .367, the best ever! Following baseball, Ty Cobb "attacked" life in the same manner. He was loud, flamboyant, and often racially controversial. He was nicknamed "The Georgia Peach". When inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, Cobb received 222 of 226 possible votes. In his attempt to write a biography of ...

  • Ty Cobb

I am 55. I have been part of baseball nearly since the Brooklyn dayze. . I never really followed, much less heard much about Ty Cobb. Had the impression he wasn't very liked. Hands off. Don't talk 'bout him. What a magnificent GENIUS, and, the best there ever was. He was WAY WAY ahead of his time. I very much admire his choices. His choices CAUSED the "public" and "media" to steer clear of him. Facts are he was the very very best. FANTASTIC portrayal. FUN, AMAZING EXCITING movie. Stands on its' own even for "no-nothing" about baseball people. Don't miss it. Forget baseball/Ty Cobb . .one GREAT movie. I'll watch it again. A keeper.

  • DVD - "Cobb" w/Tommy Lee Jones

Have been collecting works by Tommy Lee Jones; one or two at a time. "Cobb" is one of his best "acting" works, in my opinion, and is very hard to find on the retail video shelf. So far, I've not been disappointed in searching eBay for "hard to find" items. Also, enjoy using eBay 'cause most items are available at terrific bargains. And, one often communicates with the nicest people.
