About this product

Product Information

""I am Catalina, Princess of Spain, daughter of the two greatest monarchs the world has ever known...and I will be Queen of England."" Thus, bestselling author Philippa Gregory introduces one of her most unforgettable heroines: Katherine of Aragon. Known to history as the Queen who was pushed off her throne by Anne Boleyn, here is a Katherine the world has forgotten: the enchanting princess that all England loved. First married to Henry VIII's older brother, Arthur, Katherine's passion turns their arranged marriage into a love match; but when Arthur dies, the merciless English court and her ambitious parents -- the crusading King and Queen of Spain -- have to find a new role for the widow. Ultimately, it is Katherine herself who takes control of her own life by telling the most audacious lie in English history, leading her to the very pinnacle of power in England. Set in the rich beauty of Moorish Spain and the glamour of the Tudor court, "The Constant Princess" presents a woman whose constancy helps her endure betrayal, poverty, and despair, until the inevitable moment when she steps into the role she has prepared for all her life: Henry VIII's Queen, Regent, and commander of the English army in their greatest victory against Scotland.

    Talk About a Miserable life!

This is a poignant story with many relevant lessons. One, some things are not worth the trouble and the best thing in the world is to just walk away, no matter how glorious the supposed cause is. Katherine should have left England when she had the chance and she would have lived a better, happier life. Second, it shows how Katherine, due to her upbringing, was in fact far more mature and disciplined than Henry was, who was pampered and cosseted as Heir and not trained as well as he should have been.

  • The Constant Princess

This book gave a good description of what the life of Katherine Aragon may have been like. In the begining it gave a good description of her life in Spain, and goes from the narritive to what may have been her own personal thoughts. It then takes you on a great exploration of her time with Arthur Prince of Wales. I tells about her meeting on King Henry and the supposed lie that put Katherine back on the throne after Arthurs death. There really isn't too much detail on her marraige to Henry, but I think that it really helped the book because that story has been told so many times. It was really nice that towards the end it really didn't go into deep detail on the Anne Boleyn ordeal. This author really has great skill in keeping the facts while still making up a great story. I liked that I ...

  • Again Phillippa Gregory Raises my Intrest in History

The Constant Princess is an excellent tale of Katherine of Aragon (King Henry the VIII's first wife). It begins with her as a child watching her mother (Isabella of Castile) and father (Ferdinand of Aragon) constantally on the battlefield fighting the Moor's in the crusade, and ends with Katherine's battle against Anne Boleyn. The book is well written taking two points of view... one is written as if from Katherine's own diary or thoughts, and the other as if reading from a text book. The flow of the book is seemless and draws you in quickly. Before discovering Phillippa Gregory I had no intrest in history books, now I find myself even buying Non-fiction. Thank you Phillippa Gregory!

  • Fantastic Compelling Story

Philippa Gregory has written a very compelling story about The Tudor Court. The style of writing is such that you can't put the book down. You just can't put the book down. You want to keep reading to find out what happens. I would recommend anything written Philippa Gregory.

  • Well researched and entertaining.

Not quiet as good as The Other Boleyn Girl or The King's Curse but it was entertaining enough for fans of historical fiction. There's not much out there about Katharine and this was well researched.
