Synopsis
A new translation from the French by Marion Wiesel. Night is Elie Wiesel's masterpiece, a candid, horrific, and deeply poignant autobiographical account of his survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps. This new translation by Marion Wiesel, Elie's wife and frequent translator, presents this seminal memoir in the language and spirit truest to the author's original intent. And in a substantive new preface, Elie reflects on the enduring importance of Night and his lifelong, passionate dedication to ensuring that the world never forgets man's capacity for inhumanity to man. Night offers much more than a litany of the daily terrors, everyday perversions, and rampant sadism at Auschwitz and Buchenwald; it also eloquently addresses many of the philosophical as well as personal questions implicit in any serious consideration of what the Holocaust was, what it meant, and what its legacy is and will be., A New Translation From The French By Marion Wiesel "Night" is Elie Wiesel' s masterpiece, a candid, horrific, and deeply poignant autobiographical account of his survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps. Necessary and redemptive; one of the greatest, most important books I've ever read.

Mr. Wiesel survived atrocities too horrible for me to completely perceive. He speaks to the best in all of us to exemplify what the hell on earth he survived was like. He tells us with painful honesty and through his horrific memories about what happened between 1933 and 1945, when evildoers did inconceivable evil and most of the world stood by indifferently. It's possible to read Night in one sitting but when you get up to put the book away you will not be able to stop thinking about its author and his message. Instead you're likely to (and I hope you do) feel that everyone deserves respect and doesn't deserve to be demeaned let alone tortured and killed. This is true for all people; Mr. Wiesel himself spent his life teaching this. Antisemitism is unfortunately on the rise; one-third of ...

  • Everyone Needs to Read This Book

“Night” is one the most well written books that I have ever read. This book touched me more than I ever thought possible. I think everyone needs to read this book as well as go to the National Holocaust museum in DC. One of the most eye opening experiences I have ever had in my life. Just thinking about both right now is bringing tears to my eyes. Such an important thing to read and know about especially today.

  • A must read

I only picked this up to read because some of my grandchildren were required to read it for school and then when the author died I was reminded ....it was a page turner ...Nobel prize winner ..a personal history story. ...something to never be forgotten. The beautiful acceptance speech for the Nobel prize was reprinted at the end and was so moving...the reason he wrote this little powerful book. Everyone should read. I am so grateful it is required reading in some of our high schools

  • Sad Sad Story

I expected the experience of reading this book to be unbearable, but it wasn't. It was very sad but not as bad as other holocaust stories. I also fear that this is a very important part of the worlds history which will soon be forgotten because those of us old enough to have lived during this period will be passing on. It is a very short read. 113 pages. So you can read it easily and form your own opinion.

  • Cried my eyes out!

Such a truly awesome book, came absolutely brand new, be prepared to cry your heart out in this heart wrenching book. It really tugs at your heart strings, and makes you realize how grateful we should be that we didn't go through those awful things.
