This book gave me a real insight into the training and the brotherhood of the Seals. I have allways had much respect for the military but this not only gave me a new higher respect but also adjusted my perspective on what it means to be an American. These men are the deffinition on the word HERO. At first I thought the story was slow and took forever to get to the actual incident I had heard about that this book was written about. So I continued with an open mind and became just as wrapped up in the explanation of what it takes to become part of this elite fighting force as I was in the incident. The story line doesn't dissapoint in the action department and I had to keep reminding myself that this was a real life event and not a Hollywood fantasy. It was also nice to have a different perspective on what is going on over in the middle east. The Media doesn't present things so that the public can get a real sense of the war and who the enemy is and what they are capable of. Marcus gives an up front and in your face view of it that the media coverage doesn't. I would recommend this book to everyone. Marcus Luttrell and all of the Navy Seals are true heros in my book, and in this one.Read full review
Riveting, very sad, gripping true story of an overwhelmed,[wondering what 2 more SEALS added to the fight wouldve resulted in?]squad of 4 Seals morally[according to war rules made up by stupid civilian bleeding friggin hearts] trapped into revealing their position..going up against a ruthless army of 150- 200 taliban mountain-goat/monkeys with absolutely no consciences in their heads or hearts of who would be their targets...[men,women or children]. This is more of a story about our governments inability to address the enemy with more effectiveness, and better tactics and or strategies..and the weak willed response that make up the Democrats... They really are blame for everything that happened to the USA..The unions are made up of Democratic wusses who have reaped what they sowed...They need to back the Military, especially..when we got attacked..I hope the Union go belly up....because they are the worst hypocrits ever[workers rights?? Only if you dont get hurt on the job!!] GO USA!!!GO NAVY!!! GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY!! [They take care of their own]Read full review
What an awesome book!! This book is gripping in its description of the action. It makes you feel like you are there on the mountain with the team...well without the danger. The first part of the book describes what the SEAL training is like and what is involved. It makes you sleep well at night knowing that these types of people are on our side. As the story progresses, you feel as if you know each and every SEAL.I wont spoil the ending, but this book will keep you up at night reading as it is not easy to put down. Stories like this also make one reflect on the sacrifices made by each and every soldier. God Bless the United States Armed Forces and thank you each and every one for your service to this country.
This was truly a book that was hard to put down. It held your interest beginning to end. It is such an amazing, touching true account of what it's really like for a SEAL's dangerous mission -- not how our many of our media portrays or downplays what really happens. My husband and I both read this book and feel very blessed to have brave, couragous men such as this devoting their all to keep us safe and protect our freedoms in this country. We bought this book after seeing him interviewed on Fox news channel (FNC). We are loaning it, with our highest recommendation, to other upstanding individuals who would appreciate his story and his service. Living in San Diego County in California, I only wish we could have the opportunity to meet this fine person someday and thank him ourselves. It is truly a miracle he survived his Afganistan experience as his book described. God bless Marcus and keep he and his wonderful, loving family safe from any further harm -- physical or mental anguish.Read full review
Marcuss Luttrel is a man of valor and so forth his team of Navy Seals. This book describes the committment and punishment these brave men put themselves through only to face our worlds most evil adversaries and to keep everyone at home safe. Everybody should pick up this book to acknowledge the hardships and sacrifices these men give up to preserve our freedoms and way of life. Loved the book and will read over and over when I am in need of some inspiration. Thank you Marcus, you are an inspiration my friend and I will tell my children about you and your teams sacrifices. There lives and efforts will never be forgotten and neither will yours. Thank you sir.
This book changed my life. Whenever I think I'm having a bad day I just remember this true story of our nations finest. This book goes in depth about the politics of war and it's effect on a soldier's mind. And how the author's friends died as an indirect result of that. I was surprised about the range of emotions this story delves into. I have never devoured a book like I did this one. It's incredible that anyone would survive what the author went through.
I started reading 'Service' first. Once I finished his book, I had to get L.S. Marcus Luttrell understands commitment to God and country. He writes of his unwavering love for his brother Morgan and their brothers in the Teams. Family and friends blend together in the lives of the SEAL teams. Hard not to become emotionally attached with those Marcus writes about, his fellow SEALS. I'm reading on !

I could NOT put this book down. This book should be required reading for every American and especially those that think they are an American. I first heard about this book on the Glenn Beck show and ordered it. A few days after I ordered the book and had not received yet it Marcus Luttrell was on Glenn Beck because his dog was murdered. The dog was given to him for therapy and to help him recover from his injuries while protecting our country. Read this book and find out why he didn't bring these "alleged" murderers down when he had the chance. I would be honored to have a chance to meet Marcus Luttrell. Read the book! These people are real. There's no Hollywood here. READ THE BOOK!!!! Sylvi
