I've had the Grass Hog for 6 years and kept both batteries constantly charged. The second was being charged by a DIY charger. I decided to purchase a second HPB18 to make the hookup easier. It is important that after the battery cools down from use to charge and keep it charged. Never let them sit discharged for an extended period of time, that is when they start to fail. After 6 years the batteries are still running strong. A second charger is highly recommended.
