Thanks to a friend, I've heard that this exact release of Bowie's "David Live" is THE best sounding release of this classic 1974 album. And true enough, it sounds even more powerful and detailed than the vinyl. So I'm very happy to have this. When it comes to the performance/music; well - it has a certain charm and quality; it's facinating to listen to; BUT: it's nowhere near the hights Bowie would reach in his live performances of 1976 and 1978. Bowie was really lost in 1974, performancewise - like if he was very uncurtain of himself about which direction to take....combined with a real bad coke-habit. All in all; you NEED this live album, but ONLY after being familiar with the greatness Bowie was capable of in the 70s.....otherwise this somewhat gay-sounding (but still very nice) live album might scare you off. written by Erik_Snow 2010Read full review
EXCELLENT !!!! Although a bit older by now, this is simply a GEM to listen to. David's vocals are so spot on. His AND the bands performance for this quite long show are............well....STELLAR. You will not be disappointed with this AT ALL. You get your moneys worth and then some. A performance for the ages. The FULL concert in its original order..like it is here is the best way to listen to it. (The original release album was short a few songs) Therefore this is a MUST have for any true DAVID BOWIE FAN.
Of my many Bowie albums 15? This captures the pre Young Americans phase and gives you tunes from Diamond Dogs, Aladin Sane, Ziggy and others with great new arrangments, David singing with the intensity and command that only he can present, the horns are hot, the drumming is tight and right on, Earl Slicks' guitar and David Sanborn's sax put it over the top for me. Some songs were added to the CD that weren't on the album and since I've loved this record since it came out many moons ago - I'm having trouble adjusting to them, Panic in Detroit is hotter on the original album, Aladin Sane. Look for a great version of 1984, Great Earl Slick guitar on Moonage Daydream, Cracked Actor, Suffragette City, Great drums on Watch that Man, David is great through out. Turn it way up and enjoy!!!!
