Dirty Harry gets a lady partner
"The Enforcer", the third offering in Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" series, had a lot going for it-but was overshadowed by the previous 2 movies, "Dirty Harry" and "Magnum Force". This one still has some great moments, however. After his original partner is killed, Harry is paired with Inspector Kate Moore (Tyne Daly, of "Cagney & Lacey" fame) due to a politically-motivated inclusiveness campaign by San Francisco's liberal and ambitious mayor. At first, Harry is totally disgusted with the idea; however, as they track down a gang of political terrorists who have robbed a munitions warehouse and are using the weapons to blackmail the city, Kate proves herself to be able and courageous, though inexperienced. There is a great scene where Harry chases down a suspect across roofs and fences ... The movie concludes on the abandoned prison site of Alcatraz Island, where Harry and Kate take on the militant gang who have kidnapped the mayor and are armed with M-16's and even disposable rocket launchers. If you can get past the incredibility factor, the movie is quite entertaining and exciting. Harry Guardino and Bradford Dillman co-star. Jerry Fielding's jazzy score is OK, but not quite up to Lalo Schifrin's great work, who scored the other 4 Dirty Harry flicks. 4**** out of 5*****

The third Dirty Harry movie returns to the formula of the first - tough, honest cop fights bureaucracy in order to bring heinous criminals to justice. In this movie, as in the first, "justice" equals dead perps, but hey - they didn't give him a choice, did they? Partnered this time with a slimmed-down Tyne Daly, Harry eschews political correctness and favor with higher-ups to bring the bad guys' violent ways to an end.
