There's a reason it's cheap...
Years ago, I bought a Coby DVD player and didn't have problems with it. I was nervous about purchasing it back them since Coby is a no-name electronics brand, but it worked well. Gave it to a friend when I moved across the country. The DVD player I bought recently (May 2010) is crap. It is very finicky and it won't play always play a regular, non-burned/bootleg DVD. It plays burns ok. It's very frustrating that it won't play regular, region 1 (US) DVDs, and I have stuff I can't watch on this thing. It also gets hot to the touch very quickly. If you try to put it on it's side, for ventilation, it often will act up.
