Based on the Topps series and released several months after Independence Day, this movie revolves around residents of Mars coming to Earth to colonize it. Thus, Earth will be doomed unless the residents of Earth can fight them off. What keeps this film from being generic is the quirky touches and constant rules and defiance of those rules that keep its characters from being completely safe from the Mars aliens. Plus, some of the victims are Too Dumb To Live, continuing to remain in denial about the aliens' true intentions even when they're pretty obvious. Not to mention the circumstances and actions of some of the characters leave you feeling sorry for them when they get killed by the aliens (i.e. Billy Glenn Norris) while the same things leave you either not caring if they care or care enough to be happy when they die (i.e. Mr. and Mrs. Norris). Thankfully, there's plenty of humor, subverting the whole Jerk Has A Point to blazes and back in one scene, having the aliens Cross The Line MORE Than Twice in many scenes and the scene of destruction that takes place at one point has more destruction and hilarity than in the theatrical ending of the 1986 version of Little Shop of Horrors and just as much of both in its original ending. (Guess who makes an appearance in that scene? Go ahead and watch it to find out. I dare you.) Alas, this didn't earn as many dollars as Independence Day but that fact doesn't make this film any less enjoyable. Plus, this doesn't have a sequel at this time while Independence Day is getting at least one of questionable quality. Think of it as you will.Read full review
