Teenagers from Outer Space is a true, underappreciated classic. Released in 1959, it was completed for a grand total of $20,000. The premise? Teenage alien falls for teenage earthling. They get together to stop his people from taking over the Earth. Why do they need the Earth? Because they want to use it to farm their food source, a variety of huge lobster known as a 'gargon'. The aliens have deadly ray guns that disentegrate humans, leaving only a skeleton. This film is well known for getting its effects on the cheap. The gargons are stock footage of actual lobsters superimposed onto the film (much more effectively than I made it sound, I might add). The ray guns are an actual toy from the 1950's called 'Hubley's Atomic Disentegrator.' For the movie they added a light bulb. If you look closely you can still see "Hubley's" on the prop. These Atomic Disentegrators sold for 10 cents in the 1950's, and I believe they're worth about $400 now. If you ever find one with a flashbulb, it was probably used in this movie. Don't miss this one, it's a great time from start to finish.Read full review
This film is outstanding and detailed, categorized along with "The Day the Earth Stood Still". It works in every way: music, storyline, acting, romance, special effects and cast of characters. From 1 to 10 I give it a 15.
