The print head arrived on time, I think it was even a day ahead of when I expected it. There were no instructions or ink included. Because the unit is empty, it requires several cleaning cycles before it is ready for a print alignment, which must be done to get the print quality back to new. I ran 8 cleaning cycles and 2 print alignments before the quality was restored. Be sure to have new ink cartridges when you begin the process. It works like new after this and there are no complaints. If the cleaning and aligning process is not followed, it will appear to be a bad head due to lost "print" on the paper and streaking.

Was a used product and arrived in a mess - the ink head (if that's the right terminology) was not even wiped to try to to remove the excess ink, so the remaining ink got everywhere. Fortunately it was wrapped in bubble wrap so I quickly saw that the ink was everywhere so I could minimize the damage but it's hard to believe the shipper didn't think to wipe it to eliminate some of the excess ink. In any event, the replacement print head made by relatively new HP printer not print quite as badly (in other words, there was some improvement) but it certainly did not resolve the problem entirely. in fairness i am not a tech expert so am not sure if the problem with my printer is the print head or something else, but since there was some improvement I'm thinking it was and the HP print heads may just stink. As far as value, all print heads seem to be ridiculously priced so a used one for $80 is not awful, and I don't feel like I wasted the entire amount, but I certainly do not feel like I got my money's worth since the printer is only printing somewhat better. Shortly after replacing an expired yellow ink cartridge, the printer refused to print so much as a test page. I'm no electronics wizard but diagnostics pointed toward print head failure. After reading and dismissing amateur means of cleaning, I found a replacement on eBay. The price seemed reasonable- the printer has performed well and now I have a surplus of print cartridges. It arrived promptly, was installed easily and the printer now performs well.

With my original printhead the printing was poor in black and color regardless of the cleaning levels I did twice, but the printing initiated immediately upon command. With this purchased printhead it prints black text well and color so-so. However when command is given printer clicks and clacks the carriage and printhead for at least a minute before it finally begins actually printing. While this is going on a red "X" appears by the control panel indicating it is unavailable to accept commands since it says it is printing. This is regardless of the program being used, and with new cartridges installed. There is apparently something that the printer does not like about this printhead.
