About this product

Product Information

This is Pac-Man in name only, bearing just a passing resemblance to the arcade game everyone had come to know and love. In the place of Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde are flickering, off-white, anonymous ghosts. Next, a "vitamin" has replaced the fruit. In addition, the scoring isn't right and the escape routes are in the wrong places. But somehow, despite its faults, the game ends up having an unexplainable, quirky charm. Maybe it's the now-familiar opening music, the "bockchoy" sound when you eat a ghost, or the fact Pac-Man looks more like a square than a circle. And short of having a full-size arcade game in your living room, it was the only way to play Pac-Man at home in 1981. For those interested in a much better Atari 2600 translation of a Pac-Man game, check out Ms. Pac-Man instead.

    Witness to the game history

This version of PAC-MAN is known as the worst PAC-MAN ever in the game history. Along with E.T and Commodore 64 are view as the immediate cause to Atari Shock. The product I received is far more than I expected. The manual is in very good condition, and the game is playable. It's a good choice for retro game collection, not because it's a good game, but it's witness to the U.S game history.

  • Its great, but don't blame Atari !

This is a great game! You most likely already have this game. But if not for this system read below Pros. fun cool box VERY ESAY to find Cons. Now some people will complane its not like the arcade one. But I won't because I understand they couldn't make it so good on a 4 bit system. ghots flickering on other systems if you don't like this If you don't like this version you can get the 5200,7800,NES,all the Gameboys,Sega Genesis,SNES,N64,PS1,PS2,PS3,XBOX,and 360.

  • Worst Pac man port ever !

I always loved playing Pac man in the arcade but the Atari 2600 game is and always was the worst Pac man port ever made. The ghosts flicker and Pac man does not even change direction when you go up or down on the screen Pac man just seems to float sideways. If you own a 2600 & want a good Pac Man port look for Pac Man arcade which is a hack of the original and much better also there is one called Pac Man 4K another great port for the 2600. the ghosts have color & Pac Man turns instead of floating up or down screen & these ports are not that hard to find also look for a game called Pesco he is a fish eating plankton & being chased by 3 crabs sound like Pac man ? Yes it is a Pac man clone or hack & again much better than the original 2600 release.

  • Best Atari Cartridge Ever

This product is awesome! The cartridge was in great condition, supported B/W mode, and the game was just great. It's almost as if the game was in new condition--and almost as if I was writing this review in 1981!

  • Pac-Man (atari 2600)

After the super hype release date (march 1982) and the excitment to finally play Pac-Man on Atari, I thought I was going color blind. Those blinking ghost with the barely visible color hues, The plain jane maze and the bonk-bonk sound affects. Pac-Man became a victom of it's own success. However, If you can get past this graphically challenged port, it is still a fast responsive game. Now that the hype is over, this is an average version that is fun to play for the price of a cup of coffee.
