  • don't let gregory peck take all the praise!

Somehow my education did not impose on me a reading of Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," although I saw the excellent movie based on it several times. What a pleasure to discover, when finally picking up the book in my middle age, that the people who inhabit this book spring fully grown directly from the mind of Harper Lee herself, rather than just the actors in the film. Harper Lee has written not a single one-dimensional character, and has created a few of the best realized and strongest characters ever put into print: not just Atticus, Jem, and Scout Finch, but also the dignified Calpurnia, the eager Dill, the peaceful but ghostly Boo Radley, even the degraded and predatory Ewell family. These characters jump off the page like in no other novel I can recall. There is no doubt in my ...

  • Hey, Boo!

Caedmon’s eagerly awaited publication of a much-loved modern classic is a must for any serious audiobook collection. A poignant and powerful coming of age tale set in the 1930s in the racially divided South, the novel won a Pulitzer Prize and made its protagonist, lawyer Atticus Finch, into one of American literature’s most highly regarded role models and his children, Jem and “Scout,” their imaginative sidekick, Dill, and their infamous neighbor, “Boo” Radley, into old friends. Caedmon treats this novel with the respect it deserves: its packaging is understated but arresting in muted fall colors; its disks are a pale lime green; sleeves are imprinted with quotes and the opening words of each track for easy reference. The choice of Spacek as reader is as inspired as her ...

  • Great voice acting!

I've always loved the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird". I knew that certain scenes had been deleted like when Jem had to read to that awful old Mrs. Dubose! If you just see the movie you have no idea WHY she's so awful because you don't have all the information. This audio book gives you that information and more. Now audio books can be extremely expensive but check out ebay. Mine was a lightly used one that was quite reasonable. It's unabridged so there was a lot more about the children and their lives while the movie put more focus on Atticus. Sissy Spacek did a wonderful job of reading the novel. She was able to change characters beautifully. You were able to concentrate on the story without being distracted by the reader like I've experienced with some other audio books. So, see ...

  • To Kill A Mockingbird

I think it is great, I bought it for my kids at school.Alot of my students have trouble reading or just do not like to and this really helped them. They will listen to it when they wouldn't have read it otherwise.I have been trying to get all the books that are reade in our English classes to make it better for my students.I have had good results doing this and buying them on E-bay makes it affortable for me to do. I also like that it is so easy to keep up with the chapters and esy to just pop it in and turn it on. One student or the whold class can listen to it. Thanks,Gale
