Since it was released, DIre Straits 'Brothers In Arms' is one of my very favorite albums, ever. Over the years, I have listened to it on countless systems in all released versions - including cassette, cd and lp, and I would love to know the exact number of times I've listened to it. The vinyl versions I have owned include the US Warner Bros, the German Vertigo, the R.T.I. double-lp 180g and now the Abbey Road double 45 rpm. I also have the first four Dire Straits studio albums on Mobile Fidelty 45 rpms - which are fantastic! I was about to buy the Mofi version of BIA when I read an article explaining the exceptional care and lengths that went into the AR version and decided to purchase it, instead, and I am not even a little sorry or disappointed that I did! What strikes me most about the AR version is the lack of mastering tinkering to finesse or expand the recording, and the desire to most purely and faithfully present the original recording session as it was intended. And this version does it in spades! A friend brought his Mofi version over for a head-to-head comparison, and the three of us listening agreed that the AR version is the better overall sounding album. The AR version possesses a more natural precision and cleanliness that betters the Mofi, and also has a more convincing soundstage with better imaging. The Mofi, in comparison, possesses stronger low-end and is still vastly superior above the all of the previous versions I owned. Both versions are sonically spectacular, but the Abbey Road is better. Great to have this full album on vinyl - the initial release had three edited songs. Great recording, great pressing that will rival or exceed any previous vinyl version.

The Abbey Road Studios Half Speed Mastering/Cutting process loses nothing compared to other formats. This is a wonderful sounding creation, enjoyed here immensely, and highly recommended! Thanks ARS!
