finger cymbals
I was looking for some oddball percussion instruments for recording. these are nice. I have another set of Zildjian thin finger cymbals, which produce a lower tone (oddly, it seems like it'd be the other way around, right?, but apparently the thicker they are, the higher the tone). One cymbal in this set has a slightly higher pitch than the other. They could be used separately, or together. Attaching the finger string to the cymbals is a bit of a challenge, but other than that, all is OKI was looking for some oddball percussion instruments for recording. these are nice. Always go cast bronze
There are lots of cheap finger cymbals out there made from stamped brass, but for the proper sound in band and orchestral work, you really need cast bronze like these from Zildjian. There are a couple things to be aware of though. When purchased new, the support elastic straps are not connected. That is your responsibility. Rather than have a knot with long ends, I chose to fold the ends over a couple times and sew them together (to prevent pull-through). A second issue is that the hole for these elastics, as received from Zildjian, is razor sharp. They effectively just drill straight through the casting leaving sharp edges. To prevent premature wear or cutting of the elastic bands, take a slightly oversize drill or countersink and round over the edges of the hole. This has zero ...
