    It Grabbed me!

As soon as I started reading, I was hooked. I'm not done yet, but find it hard to put the book down. Fascinating stories! I've been to the Grand Canyon & know it has a riveting allure. There is something very spiritual about it. No wonder the Indians respect it so.

  • A must read after you come back from the grand canyon tour!!

I first heard about this book from our tour guide this summer when we visited the Grand Canyon. They did sell it at the book store but I choose to wait till I got home and buy it online. The book is quiet thick (400 pages). The book is broken up in easy to read chapters. Each chapter describes the different describes how people have died in the canyon i.e. falls from the rim, flash floods, swimmers, mysterious disappearances, plane crashes, etc. There is a chart at the back of each chapter that summarizes the names of all that died and a brief synopsis of how they died. The chapters give a more detailed description of the story on how each individual died. After a while of reading some of the chapters (many of the deaths were similar) I just went to the back of the chapter and read the ...

  • Crazy read about foolish people at the Canyon.

We visited the Grand Canyon in November 2011, and saw many foolish moves by other visitors; many in areas where there were no guard rails. One of the people in our party nearly freaked watching young people who veered way to close to the edges; even while ignoring their parents warnings. There's no way to place guard rails in every area of the Canyon, and no way to control foolish actions. This book is affirmation that many people have met their final end in various irresponsible and foolhardy ways. We had wondered how many had perished; it's hard to believe that they apparently average 1-1/2 per year, and some years have had as many as 8!

  • Fascinating analysis of deaths at the Grand Canyon.

What a book! Over 650 deaths have been documented in and around the Grand Canyon. This book chronicles them, divided by type of cause (air travel, drowning, falling, suicide, murder). You will be surprised at the #1 most common cause. The two authors are experienced Grand Canyon adventurers and approach this rather delicate subject with a sensitive yet statistical analysis. I highly recommend that you read this book BEFORE you visit the Canyon. Then, when you go, stay away from the edge!

  • Over the Edge. Fitting title.

Big book with small print, BUT THE EDITION WAS FROM 2001, wish I had known, would have bought a more current one. But packed with stories, very good.
