This is a fully manual SLR with all that that implies - full control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO - a unique way to experience photo taking that digital does not provide. The Olympus OM model is also a beautiful object , a small size with metallic weight and controls that are quite unique - a shutter speed behind the lens mount, pronounced shutter speed dial serving a single purpose and what should be a jarring addition but looks just right, the meter on/off switch. Visually even the fine textured grip on the on the original Olympus lens complement the whole design. The camera operates beautifully - not as hefty as other comparable cameras such as the Nikon FM but it has that same quality feeling.

Very Basic with all the essentials to learn about film photography , the Olympus OM1 offers all of that. The OM1 has the battery operated reflected needle in the screen light meter to get you started before making all the fine adjustments to take your photograph. Manual setting for the f-stop on the lens ring and then the shutter speed to accompany it. The ASA is manually set to the film speed your using from the label on the box. The lens for the Olympus offers excellent optics as well with a full range of focal lengths to choose from. The Olympus cameras make photography exciting and fun and most part also affordable compared to its rivals such as Nikon and Leica and other makers. It is super simple, very intuitive and has everything you need to take good pictures (if you have a good lens!). You don't actually need batteries to use it. I love the feel of it too. Very sturdy.

I bought my first Olympus OM-1 in 1976 and I still use this same camera to this very day which is the reason I bought another one;[can't pass up the good prices on EBAY] for this rugged little camera I know this because Iv'e taken this same camera[1976]over the years white water rafting] bear hunting in weather that would make a city boy cry,[deer hunting][turkey hunting][wild boar hunting] small game hunting]rock climbing[hang gliding- over the years and it has never failed me once in 34-yrs.Iv'e had a camera tech. clean it twice and calibrate it the first time did not need calibration second time yes from a hang gliding accident; I'am retired now and don't do any of that anymore but I sure have the photographs to prove it because of this fantastic little camera, I just collect them now because someday I believe they will command a very high price because of there reputation for all the facts I just stated; today I own every OM series camera ever made-OM-1[OM-1n]OM-2[OM-2n[OM2s[OM-3[OM-3Ti[OM-4[OM-4Ti[OM-10[OM-20[OM-30[OM-40[OM-G[OM-F[OM-2000; which is sad to say is the end of a great camera; I buy them now so I have parts for them because I will never stop useing these cameras as long as they make 35mm film, I do own now a E-3 digital and a E-410 and a E-420 which I love all of them I use a A/F confirm adapter on my digitals with all of my old Zuiko lenses with fantastic results just as good as the digital lenses, theres no need to buy all of those high end digital lenses; So if you want a 35mm film camera that you can have and use for the rest of your life these OM series cameras would be a wise choice!Read full review
