    worthless purchase

Purchased this device with anticipation of using it as a cable television channel changer. I'm currently renting this same model from my cable provider and was looking for an option of no longer paying monthly rental charge. Connected this device to my television, but it would not tune any channel in my subscribed cable lineup. Contacted the provider who informed me that because unit was from "out of area" and that they no longer supported this device that it could not be used within their system.

  • It worked for Spectrum

This DCA worked perfectly. I did have to visit my local cable comp office as it wouldn’t setup automatically upon installation since it wasn’t recognized by the company as in my equipment inventory, but they added it without trouble and I was then able to install it and set it up using a telephone rep to activate it. Saving me a fortune offf the cost of a full size cable box (I only subscribe to basic cable plan, not sure if a dta is adequate for larger plans).

  • No-time Warner

These units WOULD "work" with Time Warner (Spectrum). It's just that TW will not ALLOW you to use them. They will NOT activate (read "enter the MAC code") for them. Their "party line" is that ALL of them for sale are STOLEN! The REAL issue is that (1) Now that they have gone to "digital", NO TV's (that I know of) will receive decode the signal. (2) Thus, one MUST use a full-service cable box or a DTA or a DVR. (3) SO...TW will gladly "provide" you with a DTA for the 3 bucks or so PER MONTH ad infinitum. (They will NOT sell you one of these ~$30 DTA's, nor will they allow you to use one that has been purchased elsewhere! NICE SCAM...kind'a like, "Oh, you can keep your doctor!", etc. You CAN get cable service...YOU JUST CAN'T USE IT!

  • TWC Has Control

It will not work, on Time Warner Cable. you have to use there Cisco Box to get it activated, then pay $3.25 a month after one year.

  • Does what it should - but unusable if your cable company does not support customer owned equipment

Perfect match for the other units in the house - - But our cable company is in violation of 47CFR Chap 1c - 76 as they have blocked basic services unless you own a box. Furthermore, they refuse to activate customer owned equipment. I've filed 3 simultaneous complaints with the FCC - GVTC is supposed to reply to me within 30 days. Clock is ticking - not a peep yet. 2 weeks left. Congressional inquiry is next.
