i got a copy of the original game in a trade for super mario world, back in 8th grade. i played the hell out of it. it was my favorite game and for the most part still is. i still have that copy somewhere... i played the PlayStation version just for the extra features, but felt the lack of the original intro and slight resolution difference made it less enjoyable, and felt the cutscenes were unnecessary. it was still fun and some of the new stuff was worth the playthrough. i felt like owning it for my 3ds would be a great way to make my favorite rpg portable and i was curious of the new features for it so i bought a copy and have yet to get very far but its definitely a great way to take it on the go. i had tried to run an emulator on my psp to play it before that got stolen half a decade or so ago but it never ran very smooth. part of the experience just isnt the same when things are choppy or the music gets screwed up. the music is kind of a big part of this game. this was one of the most revolutionary games of its time. there can be no game quite as satisfying to play for many reasons. it would take a short novel's worth of talk to help you understand my love for this game in any form. instead let me just say if you have yet to play it, you need to do so. i recommend the snes version to anyone who can get it and has a working system but if you can't or you'd rather play on the go, get the ds version and prepare yourself for a wild ride through time and space. this is the rpg that broke the mould for me and many others, and any jrpg fan owes it to themselves to try this one and have an experience they will never forget or recreateRead full review

It's no surprise that a game of this scale would go on to become a hit classic the way it did. Had many memorable people working on it such as Nobou Uematsu(probably best known for his amazing work on the FF franchise), Akira Toiyama(brain behind Dragon Ball and lead artist for Dragon Quest), and Yoshinori Kitase(directed the creation of FFVII and FFX). Square Enix was a JRPG titan than and still is now. This game is a prime example of that. It has an awesome mix of colourful characters, contrasting time periods, masterful music and art, and a lot of time to be invested.

Chrono Trigger DS is even better than the original. It retains the SNES game plus the enhancements from the PlayStation release. The only complaint is the translation. This is a more accurate translation, but it lacks that Ted Woosly charm. Great game, whether it's your first encounter with Chrono, or you want to travel back in time to the pinnacle of RPGs.

I'd love to write something amazing, something that keeps your eyes focused on the text, but i can't, i'm no writer. Chrono Trigger was never released in Europe, having the chance to play it today on real Hardware (no Emulator, no Reproduction) was a must. If you were into SNES JRPG's, then i'm sure you'll be happy playing this Game. Look for Reviews in the WWW if you're still interested yet not intrigued by my blatantly simple review.

The Nintendo DS port is a definitive Remastered game that features all the bonus in-game materials from the Playstation one port with a slight graphic enhancement. Now that I have both the PS one version and the Nintendo DS version, the DS is a great buy.

Nintendo DS release On July 2, 2008, Square Enix announced that they were officially planning to bring Chrono Trigger to the Nintendo DS handheld platform. Composer Yasunori Mitsuda was pleased with the project, exclaiming "finally!" after receiving the news from Square Enix and maintaining, "it's still a very deep, very high-quality game even when you play it today. I'm very interested in seeing what kids today think about it when they play it." Square Enix touted the game by displaying Akira Toriyama's original art at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show. The DS re-release contains all of the bonus material from the PlayStation port, as well as other enhancements. The added features include a more accurate translation by Tom Slattery, a dual-screen mode which clears the top screen of all menus, a self-completing map screen, and a default "run" option. It also featured the option to choose between two control schemes: one mirroring the original SNES controls, and the other making use of the DS's touch screen. Masato Kato participated in development, overseeing the addition of the monster-battling Arena, two new areas, the Lost Sanctum and the Dimensional Vortex, and a new ending that further foreshadows the events of Chrono Cross. One of the areas within the Vortex uses the "Singing Mountain" song that was featured on the original Chrono Trigger soundtrack. These new dungeons met with mixed reviews; GameSpot called them "frustrating" and "repetitive", while IGN noted that "the extra quests in the game connect extremely well." It was a nominee for "Best RPG for the Nintendo DS" in IGN's 2008 video game awards. The Nintendo DS version of Chrono Trigger was the 22nd best-selling game of 2008 in Japan.Read full review
Chrono trigger is probably one of the greatest RPG game that squaresoft has ever made. And yes I said squaresoft because this game was made before the merger with ENIX and in my opinion was when the company made their best games ever. Chrono trigger is one of those and having the ability to play this game anywhere you want to is awesome. Also makes a great addition to anyone’s rare games collection. Don’t sleep on this game. It’s a classic that will never be forgotten. A++++++

So many times people overrate bad or average games and call them the best ever like Kid Icarus: Uprising,(worst game ever !) Metroid Prime, and Golden Eye 007 .( both generic Fps,a genre i despise with a burning passion. ) But Chrono Trigger actually deserves its praise ! It is a truly beautiful game that was many years ahead of its time, with things such as multiple endings, a deep and compelling story that holds well even today, and the most unique turn based system I have ever seen ! The characters are lovable and none were annoying . Chrono Trigger is truly a one of its kind game and nothing has ever been quite like it before and after. Buy this masterpiece if you don't own it ! You won't regret it !
