The Sony W190 is closely related to the W180 model, alongside which it was announced, the only real difference between the two being that the W180 has ever so slightly lower sensor resolution. The Sony W180 is based around a 1/2.3"-type Super HAD CCD image sensor with twelve megapixel resolution coupled to a Sony branded 3x optical zoom lens. The Sony W180 offers equivalent focal lengths which range from 35 to 105mm - a rather tight wide angle to a moderate telephoto. Maximum aperture varies from f/3.1 to f/5.6 across the zoom range. The W180 forgoes any optical viewfinder in favor of a 2.7" LCD display with 230,000 dot resolution. The Sony Cybershot W180 offers ISO sensitivity ranging from 100 to 3,200 equivalents, but forgoes true mechanical image stabilization in favor of Digital Image Stabilization, which functions by raising the camera's sensitivity (and along with it, the noise levels) so as to achieve a higher shutter speed and reduce motion blurring. The Sony W180 also includes face detection capable of detecting eight faces in a scene, which allows the camera to take into account the locations of subjects when calculating autoexposure and autofocus variables. In addition, the Sony Cyber-shot W180 features in-camera retouching capabilities, including both red-eye correction and in-camera trimming functions on offer. Other features of the Sony DSC-W180 include seven scene modes, a 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA) 30 frames-per-second video mode, and both USB 2.0 / and video output connections of unspecified types. Power comes from an NP-BK1 InfoLithium rechargeable battery, and storage includes a not-so-generous 12MB of built-in memory plus a Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo card slot. The W180's body is available in a choice of two colors - red or black. Pricing is in the region of $170.Read full review
I have owned several Sony Cybershot cameras and also have a Sony digital SLR. The point and shoots are so easy to have on hand and the price is pretty good. I rated this model 3 stars but compared to other Cybershots I have owned, I could give it a 2. This camera uses a Sony lens and not the excellent Carl Zeiss lens. It also has no viewfinder so taking pictures via the LCD screen only is very difficult in the sun. The pros are that it is very thin and lightweight and easy to operate. The increase in megapixels from my older camera was not worth it. If you buy a Cybershot with a Zeiss lens and a viewfinder you will be much happier, in my opinion.
this camera is small but, very very good for it compact size, the pictures are clear and looks great even after zooming up and printing 8 x 10 sizes.small and easy to used, much better than the 10 megapixel.great camera.if you need to record video this camera also has that ability, with audio.editing and red eye reduction is so easy.the setting is very simple, plus each selection has a explaination for that function.the battery life and operating time is also great, even are using the built in flash.honestly i'm yet to fine a negetive remark for this unit(i do not work for sony or sell any sony products)i'm a sony user and a very satisfied customer also.if this unit was not great,i would'not waste my time and tpye this review.if you are looking to buy a small compact high quality camera this is the unit.Read full review
This is a great camera for the average picture taker. The images are much better if you use a tripod and set the timer, Takes great close ups. I wish it had better night time abilitys, such as stars and the moon., as far as campfire it works fine. The video play back leaves a bit to be desired, but I have a dvd camera for that so it is not an issue, but it works great for spur of the moment recording. Fits well into the pocket, to well actually, my last sony same as this went thru the wash so, I liked it enough to buy another just as the first. Has great battery lif and comes with all the goodies for your computer. Is Windows Vista compatable.
This camera is very easy to use. It is so thin and light it easily slips into a pocket. Large display with controls easy to understand. I think it is great. I really like it. Wish it had come with a card but they are readily available. Cameras are improving so fast and this has many more megapixels than my previous camera and cost less! So easy to use that my young grandchildren take some very good pictures.
