I placed positive, because the seller was honest about it and said it was heavily scratched. The DVD would freeze up in places. I tried buffing it, but the scratches are just too deep. It was very well packaged, and came really fast. It was just a gamble that didn't pay off. But again I emphasize the seller was honest about it before I bought it. I give them an A+ for that. I ordered another copy that needs a case, so it sort of works out.

    Fantastic

I've never had a graphing calculator before, but is working like wonders. Even my father didn't believe that was this cheap being from a well-known company such as HP, very good product. This calculator allows me to represent graphs in my PreCalc class, it lets me make simple algebraic operations, the interface is pretty nice; functions as well or better than other scientific calculators. The only things I didn't like were: uses batteries to my disappointment, it is hard to look for the right sub-fuctions of the keys (pi, exponent, square root) because of the colors, but I believe it overcompesates with the very hand usb port (and apparently a binary port) on the top.

  • A very capable calculator, full of features.

I teach math classes at the local community college. The TI 83 used to be the recommended calculator. With the introduction of the TI84, the cost of a TI graphing calculator is getting steep. I have been looking for an alternative graphing calculator. On the plus side, it appears it can do about anything a TI83+ can do. (I have no experience with the TI84). It appears to be well built, I like using it. The only down side is the learning curve. You likely will not find anyone to help you learn to use it, so you have to be willing to read the user's guide. It is not a TI clone. I can graph functions and look at tables (but HP calls these plotting and numbers). It works with complex numbers. It can solve polynomial equations as well as systems of 2 and 3 equations as the TI83+ can ...

  • Inexpensive and very featureful.

This is a great calculator to convert to RPN / RPL operation by installing alternative open-source software called "newRPL" . This makes this calculator much more like a classic RPN calculator for a low cost. Out of the box, this is a calculator targeted for the educational market, with equation solving and the more common algebraic operation. Of note is that the keyboard has good tactile "feel" while in use, and similar to classic HP calculators from years gone by.

  • High school through college

Although I bought the HP39GS for my son and haven't used it myself, I wanted 1) ease of use for high school, and 2) power through college (and beyond, as Buzz Lightyear would say). My sophomore in high school switched to the HP from a Casio. He likes the large, easy to read buttons; ditto with the screen. He had used a TI in junior high and found it powerful but overly complex--unfortunately TI is very good at selling calculators through public schools. In short, the HP has been a hit from first "On", and I am confident it will take him the distance through nearly any college program provided he doesn't drop it. I will probably be buying one for myself in the next months to replace my venerable HP-15C, which has performed yeoman duty for 25 years with its single-line screen and simple ...

  • Still a useful tool.

It works fine and prints to my HP handheld printer. I had an old folio case that fits it perfectly. It was a challenge to learn how to program it (I’m a TI loyalist) but adequate manuals were found online.
