I had this lens years ago during the film age, gave it away at some point. On a G2 it performance was stellar although I preferred the manual focus and 'feel' of a Leica Tele-Elmarit. I bought the Sonnar again to use now with my Nex 5 with a Fotodiox adapter, which is working fine, with MF better than I expected. Color, definition, IQ still are excellent in the digital age as far as I can tell, better than my Canon 70-200mm F4 IS on the Nex body at same focal length and of course easier to handle on the tiny Nex. It is a perfect match but not with my eyesight. Even with peaking function and a LCD viewfinder operator error is frequent and takes more time than a dedicated Sony AF lens. I have myopia and with age, now wear bifocals I have to take off to use the LCD viewfinder but that's me. If you don't have this problem and if your subject allows it, the Sonnar makes an excellent tele and is very rewarding. Its price is also lower than the going rate for the Contax 45mm, another excellent legacy lens for the Nexes/m43. Beautiful, but it won't work for street photography, at least for me!Read full review
I bought this len to use with micro43rd camera via the adapter. It work really well. I'm falling in love with Carl Zeiss' optic. Its gave me a sharp image with the soft skin tone. This len is very light and well made. The only think I could complain is not about the len itself but the adapter I'm using with my m4/3 body. As the len was autofocus len, so there's no focus ring on it but only with adapter. Might be a little hard to use. However, the problem could be solved if I'm buy a better adapter.
Seuss makes the best optics of anyone in the world today. This lens is of exquisite quality, sharp images and of superior ease of use.

When I give a 4 it is not really a 4 - most of the Zeiss lenses will get a 5 so it becomes pretty meaningless. The solution is to raise the bar. This lens did not get full marks only because it is not perfectly sharp wide open, and no, it is not because my camera body is miscalibrated, I know the service procedures to check and calibrate a G rangefinder. In practical photographic situations, it has only given me great pictures, nothing less.
Great lens, exceptional sharpness, and with the adaptor, a fine addition to my Sony NEX-3 camera. I have never had a lens better than Zeiss lens for clarity and overall quality and durability. In addition, this lens could be moved from camera to camera by simply changing mounting adaptors.
