Still quite a good reference manual

Completed an oil and filter (oil, air and cabin air) change on our Fabia. Detail in the manual is quite good, photographs are still like something taken with a kodak instamatic and photocopied 3 times. Haynes need to improve this in the digital age. The cabin air filter comes in at least 4 different designs - a tip for home mechanics is remove it and photograph it on your phone before buying the replacement - it will save you time. So far so good - I have not explored the accuracy or

Disappointed compared to Haynes of old

Oh dear, what a disappointment this book is . I bought Haynes for a variety of vehicles in the 70's , 80's and 90's and they were great. Good quality paper , fine printing , good contrast and clear photographs. All that is gone in the Skoda Fabia 07-14 Haynes manual The diagram to explain the fuse box is only half there. This is a pity as I needed it to find where to piggyback hardwire in my dash cam. Yes there is useful information to found but it generally hard to work with. I did not pay full price so I am not too crestfallen. Had I flicked through the pages in a shop I wouldn't have bought it . I shall look for an alternative clearer , fuller, detailed manual. I know all things change , not always for the better though. regards, Paul

    • Certainly not what they used to be, poor show really

In the quest for cost savings they have dispensed with colour photographs and glossy paper. It is so easy to get grease marks that cannot be wiped off and obscure the content. Some spelling mistakes and incorrect photos but apart from that is certainly not a workshop manual any more. You cannot open the book and have the selected page remain open, as the book closes itself now. They have sucked out all the usefulness of the format at the expense of usability.

    • Absolute Neccessity

If there's a Haynes, then the car must be popular. Ever tried fixing a car without one!! Not advisable.(we had a car that no manual was available for). That won't be happening again. Manual bought for replacement car, not because there is anything wrong with it, but if something does happen we can establish how easy or difficult it's likely to be to fix. Saved a fortune over the years on repairs so well worth the tiny investment to have one at hand when needed.

    • Good, but no cigar...

The manual is very comprehensive covering all aspects of repair and maintenance. The quality of the book itself though is not so good. The pages are thin and have a look and feel of cheap quality paper. The cover is also a bit flimsy, however I believe there is a hardback version available. Compared to an older Haynes manual I purchased a while back, this one does not appear to be of the same quality. So whilst I would recommend it for it's content, it's sturdiness and durability may not prove to be so good.
