The CCD image sensor in this Nikon Coolpix L27 point and shoot digital camera captures images with resolutions of 16.1 MP. This gives you an effective resolution of 16.1 million pixels and a total resolution of 16.44 million pixels. At those levels, you can produce beautiful prints from your JPEG images and 720p HD videos with sound. You can share your AVI movies in NTSC or PAL format. The 2.7 inch LCD display lets you choose from five levels of brightness for easy viewing when framing scenes. You can let your Nikon choose the best settings to capture a scene with the Scene Auto Selector. When you're shooting pictures of friends and family, the Smart Portrait System gives priority to faces when choosing settings. It also softens the look of skin and warns you if someone blinks. You'll be able to take another picture before anyone is out of position. The range of the camera's settings are the equivalent of ISO ranges from 80 to 1600 for a 35 mm camera. The 5x optical Nikkor zoom lens lets you focus more closely on distant subjects with a focal length of 4.6-23 mm. That is equivalent to a 26-130 mm lens for a 35 mm camera. The 4x digital zoom is equivalent to a 520 mm lens for a 35 mm camera. You can easily switch setting from general photography to close-up telephoto to wide-angle shots for movies or group shots. You also have a choice of 20 types of preset modes for various lighting conditions. Beach and Snow compensate for the brightness of the sun reflecting off of the sand and water or white snow. Backlighting corrects for light coming from behind your subject. Flash mode adjusts settings for using the Coolpix L27's built-in flash, which has a range of 1.6 to 11 feet. Panorama assist mode will help you line up the individual scenes you intend to link together to form a panorama. Fireworks Show mode keeps the shutter open for a full four seconds. For longer exposures, or for shooting movies, Electronic Vibration Reduction corrects for camera movement from shaky hands or other causes. In addition, you can choose automatic white balance settings for shooting under cloudy skies or incandescent or fluorescent light. Advanced photographers can use a white card to preset the white balance manually. Exposure settings include matrix metering, center-weighted metering, and spot metering. Use spot metering for shooting close-ups of people or objects when the digital zoom's focus is over 2x. Use center-weighted metering for portraits or shooting objects when the digital zoom's focus is under 2x. Use matrix metering to obtain the best overall lighting for an entire scene. The camera has 20 MB of memory and stores your pictures on an SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card. It operates on two AA alkaline, NiMH, Oxyride, or Lithium batteries or two rechargeable EN-MH2 NiMH batteries. A wrist strap and a USB cable come with this digital camera. This powerful but versatile compact camera measures just 3.8 inches by 2.4 inches by 1.2 inches and weighs just 5.7 ounces. You'll be able to easily take it with you to take beautiful photos, no matter where you go. This Nikon Coolpix digital camera comes with a standard form factor battery.

    Isle Royale National Park Couldn't kill it

    Bought this as a used camera to take on a once in a lifetime hiking trip to Isle Royale National Park in August 2015. I have had other Nikon Coolpix and liked them. The reason I went used is that I didn't want to spend a lot of cash on what would basically be a disposable camera for me. I own a fair amount of high end print and digital cameras and would have loved to have taken them with me, however I knew that the hard knocks of a 7 day wilderness backpacking trip could be hard on quality photo equipment. Bottom line up front - the coolpix L27 kicked ass. I shot 16meg worth of photos. All crisp and clear and extremely easy to take with the little point and shoot.     Inexpensive digital point and shoot

    I purchased this Nikon Coolpix L27 so that I was able to supply better images for my eBay listings. It is a very lightweight camera, and just a little plasticy, but the image quality is fantastic. On/off button rather small. The lens cover does not always close properly when I turn it off, but not really a problem, as I closes fully if I tap it gently. Easy upload to computer with the software Nikon supplies on its website. All in all just what I needed.
