Clifton Webb in one of his best roles
I have wanted to add “Stars And Stripes Forever” to my collection for a long time. I enjoy history and biopics and this movie rolls that all into one along with a generous offering of patriotic music by the great composer John Philip Sousa. Rounding out the cast are Debra Paget, Robert Wagner, and Ruth Hussey. I don’t know why this one isn’t featured more often on TCM especially on patriotic holidays. The Music of John Phillips Souza is the patriotic march music of America! It is his story as done by Chifton Webb at his finest. One small thing to note to make you an expert when enjoying this story with others is that when he was the director of a military band - all the band members were master sergeants.
