About this product

Product Information

Take control of your units, and try to overwhelm your enemies and fight for the survival of your race in this original European PC version of StarCraft. Released by Blizzard Entertainment in 1998, this revolutionary sci-fi game was considered one of the best of all time and helped launch an entire franchise spanning several expansions and sequels as well as several books, a board game, and a range of collectibles and toys. Choose your race, and battle the others in the quest for dominance of the Koprulu Sector, a distant corner of the Milky Way galaxy. In StarCraft, you can choose to play as one of three different races of characters including Protoss, Zerg, or Terran. Each race has its own unique characteristics and its own types of units that can be unlocked through the technology tree, providing endless hours of fun as you try out all of the units to find the best combination. Try your hand as the Terrans, highly adaptable human exiles forced to leave Earth, or compete as the genocidal Zergs, intent on wiping all other races out, or the advanced humanoid Protoss, a highly intelligent race whose way of life is in danger of being wiped out by the Zerg. The game features a total of 30 missions spanning three campaigns, each one dedicated to one of the races. The first campaign follows Jim Raynor as he tries to prevent the annihilation of the Terran colonies by the Protoss and Zerg, both of which have only recently arrived in the Koprulu Sector. In the second campaign, users play as a cerebrated commander of the Zerg Swarm, controlled by the Zerg Overmind that seeks to spread the race’s hives throughout the region. Finally, in the third campaign, users take control of a high-ranking member of the Protoss military and must fight to protect the race’s homeland from both a civil war and an attack by the Zergs. Cinematic cut-scene videos interspersed throughout each campaign provide further dramatic effect and also help to advance the storyline and show key moments. Gamers can take on computer opponents in the single-player mode or connect to Blizzard’s battle.net to access the exciting online multi-player mode, where you can challenge yourself against players from all around the globe. The addition of battle.net to StarCraft was one of the major reasons for the game’s immense popularity as this interactive system allowed up to eight players to compete against one another in a range of game scenarios, including last man standing, capture the flag, and king of the hill competitions. Players can also use the campaign editor and scenarios to create hover bike races, Zerg hunting, and other fun games. This original CD-ROM version of StarCraft should run on virtually any computer, allowing you to experience this innovative sci-fi realm that made Blizzard Entertainment so famous. Players can also further add to the fun with the StarCraft Brood War expansion pack, providing even more scenarios and additional units for you to try out.

  • War game to keep you chill in the house.

The game is old school had it back in high school. Brought back memories had to purchase a CD-Rom USB to run it on my Windows 10 Laptop but it was totally worth the expense to zone out to some old school Star-craft. Makes me feel like a kid again and remember the good old days of strategy based game play for hours. Great war game fun.

  • Nothing new to add.

This game is super addictive and fun. That can't surprise you. It came out almost 20 years ago and yet it's still played by many on the competition circuit. The lore is deep and worth delving into. However, this game is very unlikely to play very well on any modern computer. My PC is hooked up to my 64" TV and it relegates it to a small box in the top corner of the screen. When I play it on my laptop it's only a matter of time before the graphics bug out and reverse. I've looked up what to do about it and basically I find 2 thoughts: 1. Be glad it play at all because: 2. Blizzard has less than ZERO interest in patching it to make it playable. A shame, because it really is a STELLAR game! (Get it? See what I did there?)

  • Oldie but a goodie

Excellent strategy game. Graphics are a bit dated, but the single player game (especially Brood War expansion) is better than Starcraft II.
