In order to prevent the ring's erstwhile owner, the dark lord Sauron, from reclaiming the ring and taking over Middle-earth, a motley band of comrades set out to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged. Included in the group are Frodo and hobbits Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monoghan), and Pippin (Billy Boyd); the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen); human warriors Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean); the dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies); the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom). Along the way, they wage battle with monsters, demons, and Sauron's evil minions, all brought to life by spectacular digital technology.Jackson's grandiose production represents the first of three films that he wrote and directed, derived from Tolkien's beloved novels. Fourteen months in the making, at a cost of $270 million, all three installments were filmed at once in New Zealand where diverse landscapes lend themselves particularly well to the mystical realm of Middle-earth.     This was a AWESOME movie and a AWESOME BUY I have watch these movies so many times that I knew I needed to add the first box set with my other 2 sets. So when I found this I was very happy it was like I found the deal of the day the disk was not damaged no scratches it was said very little ware on box . I myself could not see it so of it did it was like it said very little ware on box I literally picked this box set up fairly cheaply this movie is a great movie and very well played i am so happy I can watch them in order now the pricing for this movie and being a box set is great with out a doubt Thank you 😊!!

    Self-explanatory - the core of the episode.

    Excellent condition. Perfect content. I learned a great deal more about details in relationships and story line in the E-X-T-E-N-D-E-D version for sure. All three extended versions should have been the makeup of the released movie - regardless of time frame involved. Hollywood spoiled Peter Jackson's ability to give us the entire story line at the outset. The phenomenal planning, art design, cinematography, graphics, innovations, talent, carpentry, mechanical devices - with 3,000 cast plus 300 artistic people working in the Arts Department at WETA, no wonder it was, and still is, such a spectacular epic film.     LOTR Extended Trilogy

    The review form asks, "Are the characters engaging?" Seriously? Who makes up these questions? How about, "How many people came over to view the 14 hours of video? How much pizza did that require? Has anyone swept a floor or fed the dogs while you rewatched this classic just so you could see three hours of extra video? Work on this, guys.

    So many details to be seen in this version

    I am introducing my daughter to the trilogy and purchased all three extended version box sets. Upon just watching the movies themselves...I am seeing so much deleted from original shorter version. DID WE KNOW AARAGON WAS 87?..had no clue until saw this! With extended version you have to have a bit more patient and listen closely as the one negative is some of the main characters voices are low frequency and grumbly so turn that volume on! I am back into the world's we find so artistic and beautiful...what a great example of powerful and demanding roles that honor the actors who play them. This is a great example of good entertainment without the SMUT AND FILTH of today's standard. Yes, there is a violence to these movies but war is ugly but necessary. True heroes, honor, perseverance, ...
