Product Information
Thumbstyle guitar picking, which utilizes a drop-thumb technique that provides an alternating bassline, was developed in Western Kentucky around the 1920s. It was popularized by such country musicians as Mose Rager and Merle Travis, and reinterpreted by the next generation, which included Chet Atkins and Doc Watson. Pat Kirtley is a renowned musician in this style who has won several competitions and released multiple albums of his music. He is also an excellent teacher, and here students are treated to his patient, accessible style in order to learn from the best. After teaching the basics of the technique, Kirtley demonstrates how to play five important tunes that are representative of a wide range of important aspects of thumbpicking. The song list includes "I Am a Pilgrim," "I'll See You In My Dreams," "Deep River Blues," "Ready For The Times To Get Better," and "The Guitar Rag."
