Additional Information
The classic BBC adaptation of Dickens' beloved novel about a plucky young scamp's journey from hellish public schools to a job in a London factory, and into adulthood as a mature writer amongst in mid-nineteenth century industrial London. Dickens was famous for creating a supporting cast of memorable characters, and Wilkins Micawber, Copperfield's semi manic depressive father figure (portrayed memorably by W.C. Fields in George Cukor's 1935 film), is one of Dickens's most memorable comic characters. Here, Bob Hoskins takes on the role and proves to be one of the many highlights of this delightful adaptation, which is bolstered by a number of fine supporting roles, especially Ian McKellen's turn as the nefarious Mr. Creakle.

Excellent. This game was fantastic value and arrived in great condition. The case, inlay, manual and disc are all in great shape, almost "as new" and definitely better than the advertised "good". It did take a while to arrive but | wasn't in any rush and it was definitely worth the wait. And I think it was actually hung up in the postal system to be fair. Overall the seller offered fantastic customer service and based on my experience I'd definitely recommend this seller to anyone. A+

A tale of two David Copperfields!

Overall, this version is very good, with an amazing cast. It is well made, though (obviously) misses various characters and scenes from the book in order to simplify and shorten the production. The film is in two halves, with the first half focussing on DC's early life. Daniel Radcliffe plays the role excellently, supported by typically brilliant actors such as Ian McKellen and Maggie Smith. However, the second half features a chap called Ciaran McMenamin as David, and this is where it falls down. His 'acting' lacks passion of any kind and drains each scene of emotion. You can almost sense the other actors trying to hold the thing together. The direction seems to falter and the ending is hurried. It's such a shame as this could have become an absolute classic if they'd cast a better ...

Worth watching but lacks the gravitas of the book and is all a bit twee.

After reading the book I looked forward to a TV dramatization with an impressive cast but sadly it lacked the gravitas of Dickens' story and it was all a bit twee. The book is an epic but this production is a rush. Sir Ian McKellan and Zoe Wanacker excellent in small rolls - the rest underwhelming. Fewer comedy actors may have helped (Nicholas Lyndhurst, Pauline Quirke, Dawn French, Paul Whitehouse).

  • Excellent movie.

My friend (for whom I ordered this DVD) is happy with it, and had already seen the movie on TV prior to purchasing. So she knew about th content. That it was entertaining and "engaging". She is an avid movie watcher, and often orders DVD's of movies she has already seen on TV.

  • SUPERB ADAPTATION

A superb adaptation and realization of this classic Dickens novel which preserves the character and atmosphere of the original . It would be difficult to find a better cast. Visually, the period and settings in which it takes place are authentically captured and the whole production is free of modern gimmickry. All in all, a delight.
