  • Surprising Capabilities

Many will over look this system because of its short falls when comparing it to other systems. Its unfair to compare it to a PS1 or Saturn as an early cd based system. The 3DO came out a couple of year before them, they where able to build on the mistakes of the 3DO. When playing this system you have to remember this has less processing power and less memory. Even with these issues there are some good games available, and its a cheap system to collect for. The FZ-10 model has a built in power supply so no bricks taking up space and it has standard composite/S-Video output, along with RF out. NO special cables or switch boxes required unlike most systems of that time. Some of the downsides are the limited memory for game saves. There are no memory cards or any way to back up your saves. Another oddity (some say a con) is it only has one controller port. If you want to multiple players you plug the next player into the player before controller (controller 2 plugs into controller 1) some after market controllers used a "y" connector at the counsel so you didn't have to deal with a second cord coming out of your controller. Some games do have load time or frequent load issues as many early cd base systems had. Again for being the first stand alone CD based system if not fair to compare it to a system that came after it. You are not piggybacking a cd drive to another system to prolong it life. As of early 2016 I would say at the current prices its a good system to collect for. This is kind of an oddity of a lot of people today because many didn't have it due to the original $700 price tag (about $1100 in 2016 dollars). For that price people where moving to more capable and more useful PC's.

  • PC quality titles for the home market in the early 1990's

The 3DO is surprisingly better than I expected. Star Control 2 is a blast to play, and there are lots of hidden gems for the system. If the console launched at a better price, it would have been around awhile longer.

  • 3DO fun!

Back in the 90s these cost $700! Now you can get one for about $160. Large library of unique games and some great ports including Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo..

  • Surprisingly fun!

Never owned 3DO when I was younger, it was just to expensive. So I bought one now and was surprised on how good the graphics and game play is for it. If your in to retro games from the 80's & 90's this one is a sleeper.

  • The Hidden Giant

The 3DO, with all of the well documented management issues that plagued it, is a giant of a console. Tons of fun games are available and almost 25 years on a good majority of them are still enjoyable. Featuring obscure hidden gems like Phoenix 3, Shockwave, Lost Eden, Robinson's Requiem, Lucienne's Quest, Starfighter, Total Eclipse and more there is a LOT to discover and enjoy for hours and hours. The FZ-10 model is the best of the various models available for two main reasons. First, the FZ-10 has a built in memory manager, something you require a disc for in the other models, and second, it was built the hardiest so you are less likely to run in to any technical issues while playing. if you are into retro gaming, and looking to expand your horizons a bit, this is the console to get.
