About this product

Product Information

Breathe new life into your aging PC by replacing its slow processor with the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield. These quad-core processors can handle your upgrades. Intel managed to cram four high-performing computing cores into this 65-nm chip. The quad-core Intel processor has a fast clock speed of 2.66 GHz. You can achieve even higher speeds and incredible performance after overclocking it. This device is powerful enough to run demanding PC games and render them smoothly in full HD resolution. When paired with an equally powerful graphics card, you'll enjoy a next-generation gaming experience. This is because the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 delivers advanced physics and artificial intelligence. Thanks to the processor's quad-core design, multitasking is easier than ever before. The hardware will automatically assign each core a different task. You can run multiple programs or downloads in the background without putting any duress on the CPU. You can access programs simultaneously, even while you're playing a game or browsing the web. This multi-core microprocessor will improve your productivity and let you get more work done. It also delivers twice the performance for highly-threaded software applications, such as games and media. With the processor's advanced security features, it can prevent dangerous buffer overflow attacks from infecting your computer. Based on Intel's Core 2 micro-architecture, the QX6700 boasts a 1066 MHz front-side bus speed. The FSB is the part of the microprocessor that transfers data between its different components. It also has a large 8MB of L2 cache memory. This is a smaller, faster source of memory that stores the most frequently accessed data from the main RAM. It means that the processor delivers larger bandwidth and faster speeds than previous Core 2 Duo CPUs. The Extreme QX6700 boasts five major technological advancements that boost performance by as much as 40% over comparable processors. The Intel Wide Dynamic Execution technology delivers more instructions per clock cycle, improving the processor's execution time and energy efficiency. The Intelligent Power Capability carefully manages the processor's power consumption by turning on individual subsystems only when they're most needed. The Intel Smart Cache system lets all the cores share access to the L2 data in a much more efficient manner. Smart Memory Access optimizes the use of data bandwidth, ensuring data is located closely to where it's needed. The Advanced Digital Media Boost technology accelerates multimedia capabilities. Intel's Extreme QX6700 card operates at a maximum temperature of around 65 degrees Celsius or 149 degrees Fahrenheit. Both heatsink and fan cooling solutions are embedded directly in the card. It also has a peak power consumption of 130 watts. That is the maximum power a processor can dissipate while operating at its base clock speed with all cores active. The processing card will constantly monitor the CPU's temperature and make corrections. This helps to keep the computer within a stable temperature range. The Intel Core 2 Extreme fully supports 64-bit editions of Windows operating system on desktop, mobile, laptop, and server-based platforms. It's compatible with an LGA775 socket for use with a wide array of motherboard systems.

    Powerful 2006 Processor

I got an old computer from a friend that had a Intel D975XBX motherboard and that was a powerful motherboard back then, and I always wanted to make a monster computer back in 2006 but I had no money. So i decided to get high end parts for this retro machine and I looked into high end intel processors from 2006. The QX6800 and QX6700 popped up. Luckily the QX 6700 was the right cpu for me since it was so cheap. To cut the story short, this processor worked right out of the packaging. Had some scratches on the top and a bit of thermal paste still on, but it wasn't completely dirty. Did some heavy benchmarking and the processor was stable and ran modern applications with ease. I would recommend this processor if you're looking for a cheap yet powerful processor if you have an old Intel 975 ...

  • Powerful processor

Pumped power, speed and life into an old PC. This processor replaced an Intel Core 2 dual core running @ 1.86 ghz. The quad core with 2,66 ghz combined with a little more -a couple gigs- of RAM and a 128gb SSD, brought a very old Dell computer back to life in a real way. Running Windows 10 home 64 bit, latest 1703 release. PC's only 10 or more years old. :-)

  • Great value for a used quad core CPU.

I purchased this CPU for an upgrade to an older Dell E520 that I was rebuilding. The QX6700 took it to close to top spec for this machine. For a quad core CPU the price was attractive and it has met all of my expectations, scoring 7.2/7.9 on Windows 7 Experience Index. This is the second Core 2 Extreme CPU I have bought on eBay. The first was a QX6800 that I bought to install in an identical Dell E520 to the current rebuild. The QX6700 was about half the price and very nearly as good in performance. Very happy with the purchase.

  • Good CPU but: Used qx6700 can be wornout, check temperatures of the cores!

Nice processor from intel at an affordable price (nowadays around 45euros). Works very good with the older machines to keep up with the modern processors. Good choice for an upgrade, BUT.... Warning: when you buy a used one (2nd hand), remember this is an over-clock processor and has probably been used that way too. Result can be: core temperatures run high even in idle due to worn out thermal conducting material inside the processor to the heat spreader (metal casing) due to excessive heat in its former over-clocked life. If this is the case, you cannot over-clock the CPU without the risk blowing it up permanently. For normal use, a bigger (than normally for this CPU) heat-sink is required, with a fan running at higher revolutions (noise). How can you know if the CPU is ...

  • I'm happy with it

It was the fastest CPU a Dell Optiplex 745 will support so the decision was easy. I had to change a couple settings in the BIOS but that was easy... When I first booted it up with this CPU the POST seemed to take a lot longer to finish and just as I was thinking it might bed bad chip, it proceeded on with the boot cycle. It's way faster than the original CPU and a bargain at 25 bucks. Now I just walk away after I turn it on and I don't notice it takes longer to boot...
