While not a 100% authentic replacement of a single coil, it is very close and it offers many advantages over a true single coil. The biggest advantage is no hum... none, dead silent. And the split rails mean no drop-outs while bending. Due to having multiple cols, you also get some wiring options that a single coil cannot offer. You can install a DPDT toggle, or a push-pull pot and switch between parallel or series wiring of the coils. This has the effect of making the pickup sound more like a single-coli, or more like a humbucker depending on the switch position. Overall, this is a great fit if yo're looking for a noiseless, reasonably vintage-voiced single-coil sized pickup. Unlike many of the Dimarzio rail pickups I've tried, this one actually sounds like a single-coil and has more character to the tone. Dimarzio's tend to sound a bit the same regardless of the amp, in my experience. This rail pickup reacts much more like a true single coil, both in terms of tone and responsiveness.Read full review
