Just like all of their other endeavors of art and music, the Talking Heads Zazz it up in this random, informative and silly documentary/music video. I feel like some people would watch into about ten minutes of the film and decide they aren't going to sit through the rest; However, those who bear with the storyline are in for a few laughs, some retro-eighties emotions, and possibly the urge to dance. I decided to buy the DVD when i saw how reasonable the price was from the seller. Talking Heads are one of my all-time favorite groups, who'd inspired some of my other favorite musical groups, such as Phish, and Radiohead. In fact, the song Radio Head has made it's way into the film, which happens to be about a character who possesses mental powers because he can "radio" into peoples "vibes".... First of all, let's put out there that those who love random, almost pointless yet attractive artwork, would most likely love this film. It's very abstract, as it presents the strange lives of characters living in (David Byrne's imagination) Virgil, Texas. Of course the title, True Stories, incinuates that none of this is made up, however if I were asked to bet on that, I'd take the odds of betting that mostly all of it is. Because of the randomness, i probably won't be watching this film frequently at all, it's just nice to add another great piece of Talking Heads history to my collection. Stop Making Sense, which is a live concert film of the Talking Heads is probably going to remain a more frequently watched DVD in my house. Unlike True Stories, Stop Making Sense is more energetic, a better idea of what the Talking Heads did live.Read full review
I remember seeing this film in the 80's. Good film & music. It took some time to arrive, as it came from the US, so I wasn't to bothered about that. An unforeseen & massive snag came with it though. With it g from America, it is recorded in a different format than the English version. My computer allows me to switch formats, but only 4 times. I've watched the film once, so only have one viewing left, unless I can find a remedy to this problem. It has taught me to be a little more careful in future. As the film was'nt to expensive, I'll treat it as a lesson. So at least I got something useful from the experience !
Love this quirky movie from the mind of David Byrne. Full of amiable offbeat characters, several vignettes around eccentric townspeople, and songs performed by the Talking Heads, this film has a cult following. Watch it, and then take a magical mystery tour online to find out more cool information and background interviews on the thoughts behind the film and other interesting bits. Other people make comments like "None of my friends have seen this film; I need to find better friends" - and I heartily agree!

Off beat humor which kinda leaves you hanging. I like the music and John Goodman is entertaining. David Byrne is pretty funny, awkward and entertaining too.

This movie will appeal to fans of David Byrne and Talking Heads, plus anyone else who likes movies that are funny in a "quirky" sort of way. It's nicely shot and directed, and the main plot line is interesting... I don't want to give away much but I will say that the movie keeps you rooting for the "underdog" to accomplish his goal in life. The songs are great and I also don't want to give away anything about them... except that they are presented in a unique way, and you'll understand what I mean if you're fortunate enough to acquire both the Talking Heads album and the soundtrack album. All in all, a most enjoyable film!
