I would personally not bother with an actual camera, were it not for the impressive zoom that phones and tablets cannot yet currently replicate. The quality is excellent but so is my iPhone. The big advantage of a camera like that is good low-light results and powerful zoom. I also like the fact that's is got GPS to be able later to pinpoint on Google map or Apple map where I've been. But again so do most phones theses days.

I bought this from a TV shopping channel,as I have a Canon 7d,and a couple of lenses, and the combined weight of these is getting too much. This camera seemed a good alternative, with the incredible Zeiss lens, and Sony image quality. I was very surprised at the image quality from the small sensor on the Sony, the speed of actually taking any picture, both inside and out,and of course having a large zoom range in such a compact body. It fits in the hand nicely, the rear screen is very sharp, but,a minor critic ism, after my big Canon, the viewfinder at first seems a bit small, but is OK for occasional use,as the rear screen is so good, unlike the Canon! However, overall this camera is surprisingly good, and the imagew are very sharp and colourful, and will print out at very large sizes, curtesy of the 20 mp Sony sensor. Dare I say it,but they look just as good,if not better, than my Canon 7d,and the Sony is so much more portable, yet packed with features,so now I might get rid of my Canon kit, time for a change,as all the added weight of a big heavy bag means I seldom take my full Canon DSLR kit out these days, and the Sony is so much more portable. I can thoroughly recommend the Sony HX400V,as a great all-round camera, with a slight reservation about the smallish viewfinder(which you get used to,)and it's so quick to use too!Read full review

the only thing about this awesome piece of kit i find disappointing is that this camera does not shoot in RAW.. everything else is superb!! the size the look and the zoom .. Ohhh the zoom is fantastic !! if you are a wildlife person like myself then this would be an excellent addition to your kit (dont just take my word for it!!,just check out the vids on the internet showing the awesome zoom quality) i own a nikon and since i have bought this camera .. i have not touched it .. one word ....AMAZING !!

I already had a Sony HX50 which is 30X Optical enlargement (which is great) I bought this 400V camera because of the 50x Optical enlargement to avoid a bag of lenses. The camera is great - not as small as I thought - but great. I now have to buy the bibs & bobs that go with the camera such as strap/case/charger, not expensive each but when added together not cheap. I got the camera well under todays value so addon's are an essential cost. The camera is great value, it has more gizmo's than I can count or use. 5 star camera.

this is the best all round camera for professional or armature photographers because of the amazing zoom sharp even at full digital zoom plus the outstanding Carl Zeiss lens make shore you get the HX400 V ,the menu needs getting used to but it has a built in help for when you change settings ,If you want to just shoot perfect pictures every time select the IA mode and the camera does it all for you , if however you like to experiment there are plenty of modes to play with ,also first class movie mode . I rate this camera five stars and loads of fun
